I think we should keep hold of him as a squad player. Been really impressed with him this season. He’s also good at ****housery and has Geordie parents so we will always get that little bit more out of him.
He’s a good squad player. He knows his place. Good to have around the club. Earned the right aswell. Keep.
I actually think Murphy has a real player inside him, but probably only looks it in training. It's fine margins, but mentality is so important. Isak, for example - gifted, of course, but is SO confident the more people watching the better for him. Most top players are like that. So with Howe's continued belief in Murphy, we're seeing he might actually be decent. Plus he's cheap, will work hard, is a good lad and will give his all when called upon. League Cup games? Perfect. Ritchie has to go first, which pushes Murphy down to like 4th choice, but I'd keep him for sure.
Absolutely agree. Next season if we get in Europe we will need numbers. He is giving everything to make himself a valuable member of the squad. Agree with Roland. It's that mentally (which can be developed tbf) to believe and be clinical in the moment he needs to work on.
I just think Murphy isn't going to be a key player moving into the next phase of the next galacticos.
Of the players currently in and around the first 11 he would be my first choice for an upgrade. He has had a couple of good games - lets not get carried away.
I think everyone is just saying he’s done enough to stay in the squad. I wouldn’t lament his departure, of course, and would be annoyed if he’s anything more than 5th choice next season (behind Diaby/Thuram, Gordon, Almiron, ASM). But that’s the depth we need.
Love his attitude - never gets down, always buzzing for the win, ****-housery is top notch. Limited, yes, desire, definitely. A bit like Longstaff (but not on Longy's level) he knows his role at the club and if he stays on he'll get a good amount of playing time in the cups and possibly Europe - which for Murphy would make a fantastic career. Said it many moons ago, after about the first 3 winners team photos, but I hope someone is making a collage of his roars in those photos, the lad is like every fan after a win.
Murphy has managed to transition into the way we play well recently, he's pacy, works hard and gets good crosses in. It's the exact opposite of ASM, who generally isn't fitting into the Howe style of play and team so much. That about about those 2 would be pretty much the complete reverse 2 years ago, but there we go.
You've all gone from he's useless to wanting him here really quickly. I don't see him being part of the future.
I asked who had said he was a “key player”? Everybody has basically said they’re happier with him now and wouldn’t be so upset if he stayed - as 4th or 5th choice. Hardly “key player”.
Hmmm I see but I think they'll cash in personally. I don't think he's good enough. Hopefully I'm wrong.
