    In the Newshopper today.

Just about the only member of the 2014-18 team that would have even got a sniff under Lennie or Curbs.

Forget the player age made him become, remember the many invaluable goals and the knee slides in far flung places over the last 8 years.

    A proper Captain.

The free kicks in the consecutive 1-0 wins against the Sheffields in our promotion season, and the last minute header against QPR, some of my favourite Charlton moments

A modern day legend, and surely a future manager.

I'd be more than happy with Jacko as manager under decent owners. He has all the personal qualities required. It would be great if he could pop one in in his last game, like SCP did.

Trademark kneeslide in front of the away fans when we won 4-3 at Watford. Ditto when he scored a last min equaliser at Ipswich.

    News Shopper article text

Johnnie Jackson is retiring at the end of the season - and here the Charlton legend answers 13 quick-fire News Shopper questions about his incredible playing career at the Valley.

    Best goal?

The free-kick against Sheffield United was the best-looking goal. But QPR at home was the best goal because of the moment, the whole situation, where we were in the league and what it meant in the 90th minute. That was the best feeling I’ve had scoring a goal.

    Best room-mate?

I better go with Chris Solly because he’s still at the club! I’ve had some great room-mates down the years. I’ve had Michael Morrison - I’m still really good mates with him now. Stephen Henderson - I’m still really good mates with him and now Solls. So I’m lucky, I’ve had some good ones.

    Best moment?

Getting promoted to the Championship at Carlisle.

    Worst moment?

    Getting relegated to League One.

Best Charlton player you’ve played with?

Dale Stephens. He’s an unbelievable footballer. Technically superb, physical, could run, tackle, head, pass. I knew he’d go and play in the Premier League, I knew he was good enough.

Previous Charlton manager who’s helped your career the most?

    Chris Powell.

    Funniest moment?

A certain incident happened in Lepe. We went on a pre-season trip to Lepe in southern Spain under Chris Powell. I’m not going to tell you what happened but there was a group of us known as “The Lepe Eight”. Put it this way, we’re still talked about now. At the time it wasn't good, but it turned out okay.

    Most memorable moment?

Scoring against QPR in the 90th minute.

    Worst dress sense?

Ricardo Fuller. Jamaican vests, baggy jeans, just the most chilled back, laid back guy ever. He just didn't care, he could walk in and get hammered by the lads. What a guy. Marshy [Mark Marshall] is pretty bad, but again, he’s from Jamaica too, it must be something there.

How many Charlton managers and caretaker managers do you think you’ve played under?

Phil Parkinson, Keith Peacock, Chris Powell, Jose Riga, Bob Peeters, Guy Luzon, Karel Fraeye, Russell Slade and Karl Robinson. Did Damo [Damian Matthew] take a game? Yeah he did. Ten in total.

*Kevin Nugent was the only person Jackson missed out - he took caretaker charge after Russell Slade left the club in November 2016.

Best Charlton academy graduate you’ve played with?

Ademola Lookman. Just his freakish ability, both feet, the way he goes past people with pace, he can go either way. He’s a special talent. I should mention Joe Gomez, as well. He was freakishly good at a young age. Lookman was 5ft 6ins or 7ins, looked about 12, but had frightening ability.

    Worst taste in music?

Whoever is in charge now. Pearcey [Jason Pearce] does a bit of house music, but when the young boys take over and you get all that grime. Ezri Konsa, Joe Aribo, Tariqe Fosu and that lot, they get their grime on - it’s not for me.

    Favourite match?

Cardiff at home [the 5-4 win] was pretty special. The one at Carlisle when we got promoted, you’re just waiting and waiting and waiting for it and praying for someone to score. The whole relief of getting over the line knowing that you’re going to do it. You’re always thinking ‘what if we don’t?’ but when Wrighty [Bradley Wright-Phillips] scored that goal, I asked someone in the crowd how Sheffield Wednesday were getting on and they weren’t winning. I was thinking ‘this is going to happen’ and then it did and the relief and euphoria and the night. It’s just, yeah, Carlisle has been my favourite match.

Some interesting answers there from JJ.
As far as I recall I've never criticised Johnnie Jackson - never had cause to. I've felt sorry for him a few times, like when Meire had him attend that meeting in November 2015, seated behind the table with most of the regime cronies. He looked pretty uncomfortable.

Despite the troubled times he has had to play through, in my view Johnnie deserves to be remembered as one of Charlton's great players. God knows there have been precious few of them in recent years.
Thanks for all the good memories JJ, and the very best of luck with your future career. I hope you continue to represent our Club for many years to come, and continue to embody all that is best about the Addicks - everything that the fans can always feel proud of.

I wouldn't say Jackson was a great player. But he was a great servant to the Club. He always gave his all and he will have my thanks and gratitude for that. In the last four years he has swam in a sea of **** thanks to Duchatelet and Meire. I am sure he will get a good send off from all Charlton fans.
