Sorry, this is the third article of the day and we are only just past 12! It is a certain Jackie Milburn's birthday today and although he sadly passed away over 20 years go I thought it would be nice to recognise how great a player he was. Here is a video of the 1955 FA Cup Final where Milburn scored the first goal and hopefully we can all see Newcastle win something again in the next few years! Another thing that needs to be mentioned is that he was a modest and wonderful person, which is something you don't get with modern day footballers (except for Shola Ameobi who likes hats)!
Talking about Gazza from nufc.com Imagine if he had played again Shearer would have probably never have caught up
Happy Birthday to him It's also the anniversary of the testimonial of our other great great Striker! good day all round.
And Nigel De Jong has had a tragic lawnmower accident and will never play football and break anyone elses legs again...
Wor Jackie was indeed a great player, a great sportsman and a great gentleman. A real man of the people. He wasn't big headed and full of himself the way some of today's wannabe's are and always kept his feet on the ground. He was a friend of my aunt's and I had the pleasure of meeting him and got his autograph.
I love watching old videos like that, the way they move both on the pitch and in the crowd, and the commentators voice makes it seem like a piss take. I'm too young to have seen Jackie play unfortunately.
