Arsenal's Jack Wilshere to undergo minor knee surgery
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18090977

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is to undergo minor knee surgery in Sweden over the next few days.

The 20-year-old missed the whole of the 2011-12 campaign with an ankle problem, which has also ended his hopes of representing England at Euro 2012.

A long-standing knee injury has flared up during his rehabilitation from that ankle problem. A club statement read: "This procedure is not expected to significantly affect Jack's comeback ahead of next season." It added: "On returning to England, Jack will resume his rehabilitation with the Arsenal medical team over the summer."

This is starting to really drag on now. Another injury and now surgery on his knee?!?! We really need to do the business in the transfer market now and go for not 1 but 2 midfielder. M'Villa and another creative midfielder in Goetze or something!

Definitely need another attacking MF player. We have done ever since Fabregas and Nasri left

I assume he'll now miss next season too? Thats not great news, i agree with Piskie, we really need a new CAM, maybe even just on a temporary basis

Even with Wilshere in the team, can we rely on him to provide all of our creative attacking play for 50+ games ?
It's like RVP all over again. He had a brilliant season, but we were all walking on eggshells praying he didn't get injured.
If we really want to show ambition, I think we need to be signing a top quality CAM in the mold of Goetze (we may not get him)

Without wishing to sound like Wenger, there aren't really that many top quality CAM's available, most are tied down to long term contracts, and are probably out of our price range.

That is the trouble. I think we would have to break the bank if we were going to bring in a player of top quality. I kind of hoped we'd go after Kagawa if we couldn't get Goetze, but it looks like he's going to Utd.

Same here, Kagawa and Gotze are my preferred choices. We won't get either though. Is it worth taking a gamble on Gourcuff, and seeing if Wenger can bring him back to form?

Even when on form he has never really looked like someone suited to play for Arsenal.

True, but there aren't really many options around. Anyone care to draw up a provisional list. I'm stumped if i can think of too many.

What's wrong with Rosicky or even Chamberlain? If you were going to get another player in that position I'd have thought you'd get someone as backup to Wilshere and Rosicky rather than breaking the bank for a star player. Depending on where Podolski plays you're more likely to need a top left winger/striker, plus a top holding mid.

Rosicky is injury prone, Chamberlain isn't ready yet.

Rosicky isn't injury prone, he was just out for a long time.

Oxo is ready to be cover for players like Wilshere & Rosicky.

Why isn't he ready? Rosicky and Wilshere are likely to be able to play there for most of the season so I don't see why he wouldn't be able to fill in there as backup. Eitherway you definitely don't need to go blowing all the kitty on an attacking midfielder, all you'd need is able backup.

    Plus, there's always Ramsey <run>

I think our best chance is to go with Rosicky and Wilshere and hope that one of our young players come through.

Eisfeld, Ozyakup and Gnabry are getting to the age that Fabregas came through into the first team. At this point, these are probably our best hopes of getting a top class midfielder.

Eisfeld comes from Dortmunds academy, he has to be worth a look at, we know how good that academy is. Ozyakup has looked good for the reserves.

Two of Arsenal's most promising youngsters (Ramsey and Wilshere) destroyed through injuries.

    Oxlade-Chamberlain better be careful.
