http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/not...rry-Redknapp-wants-Evertons-Jack-Rodwell.html HARRY REDKNAPP wants to make Jack Rodwell his first big signing of the summer. Tottenham's boss was disappointed to miss out on long-term target Phil Jones. The Blackburn defender snubbed Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool and agreed terms with Manchester United last week. Now Redknapp has turned to Rodwell, a player who shares Jones's ability to play either as a centre-back or a defensive midfielder. Sources say United went for Jones after going cool on a £25million swoop for Rodwell. But the 20-year-old Everton star remains much coveted, with Chelsea and Manchester City also monitoring him. Tottenham are looking to sell Wilson Palacios to finance other signings and Rodwell would fight it out with Brazil international Sandro for the holding midfield position at White Hart Lane. He would also provide an alternative in defence, where the fitness of Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate and the uncertainty about Sebastien Bassong's future point to a vacancy. Rodwell is currently on show along with Jones and the rest of England's Under-21 squad at the European Championship in Denmark, which is being attended by scouts representing no fewer than 17 English clubs. He joined Everton's youth set-up as a seven-year-old, went on to make his Premier League debut in March 2008 and signed a five-year contract extension at the end of last season.
I must admit, I've not really got the fuss about Rodwell, to be honest. There must be something really impressive about his game, as the list of top managers that rate him appears to be extremely long, but I guess I haven't seen enough of him to spot his greater qualities. O'Hara, Jenas and Palacios out, Rodwell and Parker in? Sounds vaguely plausible and it appears that his main suitors are spending big elsewhere, so we might be able to steal a march on Ferguson with this one. Would he risk making a move to a club where his chances could be quite restricted, though? I'm not convinced.
I went to the Everton board to see what they thought about this story, but there's virtually no Evertonian presence on not606. What's that about?
I think 8 clubs in the PL haven't had a post on here today and 3 of that 8 haven't had one since Friday.
Think it's be great if we sign him. He'll be an England international in the future, quite promising. He'll be fairly expensive, due to the English tag, so we'll have to be careful not to be held to ransom over him.
I'm starting to think we'd be better off keeping Palacios, if he's prepared to stay. Parker for £10mill, when we were trying to sign him for 8 last season and £20-25mill for Rodwell when we've already got 3 excellent centre mids. Rodwell needs to be playing regularly at this stage in his career and I'd hope that he wouldn't be playing ahead of Modric, Sandro or Hudd. £25mill could be better spent on strengthening our striking options or getting another out and out centre back.
Why are we being constantly linked with midfielders when we need strikers would be a good addition but the " english factor " adds 10 million.
load of tosh rebelspur......english players are so overated..i honelty dont even think the likes of rooney are all that...would be a great impact sub at most if he was spanish and playing for the national team
Thats what i'm saying Dona he would be a good squad member like Pienaar but the differance is Pienaar costs 3 million and Rodwell costs 20-25 million
He would cost a bomb because he is a good young English player. Not quite good enough to displace Sandro and obviously Luka. If everton took either of Bentley or Jenas in a px however, it would become quite tempting
If he was to join I think he'd be playing as a centre half. For the price they're asking however I'd rather look elsewhere. Everton can't really afford to lose any of their best players so a transfer seems overly troublesome to resolve.
Bentley to Everton - No chance. One thing about Moyes' team is that they all have an incredible work rate. Jenas maybe - he'll run around a lot.
ANOTHER MIDFIELDER LOL! Yes let's continue to look good in the middle of the park but pants up front!
I can't help but notice that we haven't been linked to him at any point beforehand, whilst Ferguson has been grooming him for service via the usual channels for over a year now. It could just be a coincidence, or it could be a response to him planning to slip a couple of rohypnol into Modric's drink...
I'd suggest that it might be more about Ferguson's perceived targets being elsewhere, HBIC. It might be a ploy to get his price down, by showing that he has other options, though. If Young's going to cost £16m-odd, De Gea £18 and Jones is £20m, then that's £54m off the bat. He still needs to replace Scholes after that, at least.
Most of the talk I've heard is that he'll be spending £60m this summer, meaning he'll only have £6m to replace Scholes with - unless his announcment that they were in talks with De Gea without telling De Gea, his agent or Atletico Madrid about this backfire spectacularly, then they'll have £24m to replace Scholes and Van der Sar with...
