As previous posts have mentioned they both have been avaliable for transfer this season. Jack paynes scenario most people thought it was due to bigger and better clubs being interested but havin now called payne back into the frame it shows that allen might just not been a fan of his. However maybe montroses recent below par peformences have made allen realise the payne is a damn sight better... Defensively, going forward, in the air(despite size), work rate, positional sense, passing qualities .... The list goes on. The same is said about danny jackman. I think prehaps martin allen wanted to bulk up the middle with a taller player but has now began to realise the poor mans juniour lewis is just not good enough. Any how jack payne, charlie lee, whelps are all excellent i the air and with barretts comanding headers that should be plenty. I hope allen can see jack payne and jackman are the 2 best holding players and drops montrose down. Personally my 3rd choice holding mid would be charlie lee then giving the extra midfield slot to allen, dack, whelps, weston ect Thoughts??
Thoughts ? I'll tell you my thoughts - Despite Readers & The Gills Pegleg being uncomplimentary towards Montrose in the Jack Payne thread, I suspect that I will suffer the fall out for your latest offering ! ( thankyou son )
About this time last year we were asked on the Gills Board to name our favorite 3 players past and present. For the pres. players I put Rooney, Payne and Jackman. Inspite of our glorious season to date, I can't help feeling just a little bit miffed that Rooney has gone, and Jack and Danny have looked like going this season. I have not been over to UK since Montrose signed, but was heartened to hear that Wycombe fans were inquiring about his progress in the early part of last season (some obviously regretting his departure?) which I regarded as a good sign. I understand his effort and commitment are not in question, but do you guys think he has the ability to improve his tactical game in both physical and mental areas or has he now reached the 'Top of hisTree' ?
The difficult part here is is not being seen as a critic of MA, when you form an opinion on varied situations. Especially when we are top of the league and no one could have imagined our fantastic start to the season. However, we already had a good mix of players before MA stepped in the Priestfield door i.e Jack Payne and Danny Jackman. Then MA added his own additional mix of good players, forming the squad which has received due acclaim. Getting down to the basics of it though and just my own personal opinion, if I had a choice between Montrose/Martin or Payne/Jackman the latter would easily be my choice but then what do I know about player ability from a coaching view - nothing. I always felt Hessy's faults were his Mr Nice guy approach or what I saw of it and MA's faults at early days appear to be his strong man management style. I watched a video a few days ago which were highlights of MA's best bits, particularly in interviews with the media. After watching that video I asked myself a question from many years of something I do have experience in - management. That question was when does a jovial person become an intimidating individual. Why do I say that you may ask, well in truth looking back, some of the attributes gave me an uncomfortable feeling. Mad Dog by name, Mad Dog by nature but how does that reflect onto the pitch...so far so good but in relation to training ground and the dressing room I would not know. But something I do know is that I am left absolutely mystified in regards to Payne and Jackman.
