Hi Guys you may already have heard but today the Gills have completed a loan deal for our young exciting Striker Jack Marriott until the end of the season. I gather that Hewitt is returning back to full fitness and will also be on loan until the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how young Jack gets on in League 1 after he banged in 9 goals in 8 games for Woking in the Skrill premier! I know this is another major step up in class but this young lad has real quality and a natural goal scorer. We at Ipswich are really excited about this young lad and I hope that he will soon bang in some goals for you too! I will keep an eye out for your results in future to see who is on the score sheet!
Not at all mate. We're just happy that he's getting game time at a higher level than Woking. Did he play?
No he didn't play tonight but i think he was on the bench (without checking). With Cody, Keds, Bayo and Dack he will need to be patient. Keds will need to have his op soon, so might get a chance then. I expect PT would not have wanted to risk a new youth lad for the Wolves game.
We're all hoping he brings some youthful zest to the team as well lads. We are not exactly blessed with pace in our side. I hear young Jack does possess some of this magical quality. Is that right? If he can bang in a few for us, we'll all be watching his career progress back at your place too. Cheers.
Jack Marriott was warming up in-front of me, but as Peter Taylor had used two of his substitutions by bringing on Bradley Dack and Adebayo Akinfenwa for Craig ***an and Charlie Lee, Peter Taylor was probably keeping that final substitution spare just in-case someone picked up a knock or we needed to change things tactically. Jack Marriott will defiantly get game-time here at Gillingham, we have not signed the lad on loan just to sit on the bench, but with the form Cody McDonald is in at the moment then Jack Marriott will have to accept that he is going to either come on as a sub or occasionally start a match here or there.
I heard that Elliott had a good game for you today, is that right? I see Jack hasn't managed to feature yet too, problems, or are your other strikers on fire?
Elliot played very well yesterday considering he has only just come back from injury. He seems the full package at this level as he played well at the back and stopped Swindon getting the ball in the box which is what you love to see your full backs do, also when he did play in midfield last year he was brilliant there. You have such a good player there, such a talent wish we could have him for longer. Considering he is young he is very good at the back and where he was so strong at the back that allowed Harriman the freedom to attack more which is what he likes to do but when he is at right back he has to think about getting back but he had more freedom due to Hewitt which means that he played very well. I have to say it is a shame with Marriott as I would like to see him play as he sounds as if he is a talent, surely he will get a chance soon otherwise I could see you recalling him and sending him elsewhere unless he starts to play a bit.
Elliot was superb, and playing him at full back allowed Michael Harriman who started life as a forward. then moved to mid field ,then to full back at QPR, to move back to midfield where he is probably most effective. Cody Mac up front has been on a goal scoring run (til yesterday) and his best partner is Akinfenwa. I think Peter Taylor is waiting til Cody hits a barren spell or runs out of steam during a game before he brings Marriott on, as he seems to be a similar type of player to Cody
I would personally like to see what Marriott and Cody Mac play like together. Start Bayo and Cody Mac against Brentford to give them a few problems and then make the change at half time as I think Bayo seems effective in the first half but after around 50-55 minutes he doesn't seem to be too much use so I would make the change before that and bring on Marriott for Bayo instead of ***an. Then if Cody is getting a bit tired bring on ***an for McDonald later on in the game if the change is needed.
Thanks for that lads We have high hopes for both Elliott and Jack and it's good to hear that you are pleased to have them. We have recently had a dip in form and some of us are starting to think that it may be better to have Jack warming our bench than yours. We have been lacking in goals and that is what the boy does, score goals. Elliott on the other hand is gaining valuable experience and I really hope he will be our permanent RB next season as he shows more going forwards than our CB Luke Chambers who is currently in the role.
