I think if for no other reason the rest of the defence will up their game due to the additional competition for starting places now. Also the more of NP's old team playing together the less time needed to acclimatise
Good signing but there is now way any of our back are getting dropped yet. It's important to remember that no team ever really has a 'first XI' because there's always injuries and suspensions. He'll be on the bench for the first few games but as soon as Chester or Gerrard get injured he'll be straight in. The chances of him rotting on the bench while the rest of our defence stay free of injury suspension and poor form all season are just shy of 0.
Dawson on 8, Gerrard on 6, Rosenior on 2 and Chester on 1. So he'll have to wait until Dawson gets 2 more yellows, or someone has a dip in form or an injury.
I think most fans would drop Dawson now if there were anyone who could play his role, rosenoir arguably could play left back But that means 2 players playing out of position. I thought we would have brought a defender in but one who can play on the left aswell as centre.
It's annoying, our defenders can get booked for absolutely nothing these days. Dawson, Gerrard, and Harper get booked every match they play in for some ridiculus challenge that's not even a foul. You'd think the refs must be briefed to make sure these 3 get booked or something! Teams that actually are very dirty, Leeds for example, don't seem to have this problem at all. That little *** Becchio would be sent off most games if he had to play by the same rules as our defenders...
Drop Dawson now? No, he's just picked up form and had his best few games of the season, he's also our stand in captain at the time being and with Harper being out I can't see anyone else to step forwards, other than Koren who's not really captain material IMO despite him captaining his country.
I'm not actually sure how accurate these stats are. They are off the official web site, but according to them McLean and Barmby only have 1 assist each for the season. The goals are correct though and yellow cards would be pretty hard to get wrong.
Gerrard has got six yellows, but there's a card amnesty towards the end of the year and all the ones before then are wiped.
If he got his fifth recently then it wouldn't matter. As far as I understand there is a cut-off point in the season where the 5-yellow ban no longer applies. Just have to hope they don't get up to 10!
there is no doubt that a dip in form, an injury or suspension will necessitate a change in personnel. He gives us more options
