    My thoughts exactly.
Haven't we tried to sign him before?

As far as we understand, we were hesitating about offering him a new contract in the summer for whatever reason. Koeman has said Jack needs to earn a new contract on the pitch. Since then, it seems to me that he has generally thought to have been excellent every time he's played, and unless someone obviously better comes along to replace him, he'll be sorted with a new contract before too long.

One caveat: we can't guarantee him a place in the starting lineup, which he may feel he needs and can get elsewhere. That said, he is getting a fair bit of gametime at the moment with us.

Good player and a decent guy by all accounts. He'd fit us like a glove but I can't see him leaving The Saints as, imo, he's played well enough to have earned a new contract. I doubt he'll be leaving any time soon.

True. Was his move part of the Siggy, Vorm Davies deal?
From his comments when he came to us Carroll seemed to believe he'd get regular football but hasn't even with Leon on the treatment bed. I can see him leaving as soon as he can.

An excellent prospect in a team that passes the ball but a little light weight for us.
