In light of recent developments with Snow Fairy being disqualified of her Romanet win and Izzi Top being awarded the race. I backed Izzi Top that day at 6/1. Does anyone know the bookmakers stance on results like this? I know Im probably pissing in the wind with this one but as anyone got any expierience of bookmakers paying out on the races awarded to a different horse after the result on the day
If you backed online I'd go onto the live chat facility and have your bet reference handy, explain the situation and see what happens. I'd say they'll be happy enough to refund your stake at the very least if you go about it the right way. If its in a bookies and you have the slip go down and talk to them and see what they say but if you don't have the slip you've no chance.
They only pay out on first past the post or result of any amended resulty following stewards on the day. Very occasionally, and only where they can earn some positive publicity, they'll refund losing bets and even then usually from attention seeking bookies only like a Paddy Power....
As a fully paid up member of the Izzi Top fan club, I suppose I should look at the positives here and say that at least she got awarded the race. As a punter who used to work for a bookie a long time ago, I can tell you that there is nothing doing. The bookies pay out on the official result on the day (after the weigh-in) or some offer first-past-the-post betting. Once they have paid out the winning bets, the losing bets are cash in the bank. It would be logistically impossible to track down the people that backed the subsequently disqualified winner and get the money back off them and then pay out those who originally backed the horse awarded the race. When Aliysa was disqualified more than a year after her 1989 Oaks win, punters kept their winnings and those that backed Snow Bride had no claim.
