Away points are like buses. Not in that one waits an awful long time for them and then two come along at once, because what possible outcome could yield two points? And also, has anyone ever actually seen more than one bus at once? No. There's never more than one working. A better maxim would be "... like buses - you wait ages for them and then one crappy old one comes along with 76 people already squeezed on them, and you have to stand next to the pissed up, illiterate man who looks like a drowned rat and smells like one too". No, just that it's a bloody long time to wait for them, and then forget all about that when they finally do arrive and accept them like a long-lost friend, or a bar of chocolate you didn't realise you had but found at the back of a cupboard. Anyway, I don't think listening to the ridiculously pro-Shrewsbury coverage of BBC Radio Shropshire is sufficient for me to do a match report, so I'll just stick up a MotM poll. For once, I actually agree with Steve Cross - I thought Sharps sounded excellent and he would be my shout. Collins would have been but for his profligacy. Anyway, who would yours be? Let's just hope that away wins turn out to be like buses - wait ages for one and then, when they eventually do arrive, they're from Swindon.
League table after 30 games last season. Still 9 points better off this season. http://www.shrewsburytown.com/page/LeagueTable/0,,10443~20110208,00.html
Great result, shame a couple of sitters were missed (yet again). bring on Tuesday and another great game.
I thought we put in a good professional performance - in particular in the second half when we controlled possession after we had got back in front. Barnet are a much improved side and the fact we could dominate possession against them away is a very good sign. Collins was the stand-out for me - though he did miss a couple of decent chances he scored a good goal and his intelligent runs down the channels caused Barnet all sorts of problems. Richards was again dominant in midfield and linked very well with the hard-working Mcallister. Wright looked good in the first half but faded later, Taylor run and tackled very hard. Gornell played better than on Tuesday but needs a goal to get his sharpness back. I think we are a much better side than last year when we would have probably come out of a game like this with a draw. We can go into the next two really tough games with a degree of confidence - remember Swindon only scraped past Barnet in the JPT and struggled more against Hereford away than we did while Crawley lost 3-0 at Swindon. If we are still within a few points of the lead after the next few games we are very well placed for the run-in.
good report thanks, i am pleased gornell may be on his way back. i take comfort from swindon making heavy weather of bulls and likewise southend of crewe, sadly cheltenham may be boosted by their goal fest but it was only against the daggers. if any club is to come away with points from the rotties it could be the shrews. i would laugh like a drain if we pinched their bone
brilliant result, this game had DRAW written all over it. but we dug deep and got another terrific result...well done lads
ManFeelings - I thought you were heading to this game? Great win by our team. Did anyone go and is McLeod as good as people make out??
Mcleod only had one chance and stuck it away - he is a real fox in the box in this league but of course he has scored regularly at a higher level. Apart from that he did not produce a lot - unlike Collins who scored and was a constant threat with his intelligent runs (but of course Collins was not being marked by Sharps!)
