....anybody think that either West Ham or Cardiff will trouble the top half of the table after that display?

I thought Cardiff were very plain, although Andrew taylor looked pretty good. I think Cardiff will have problems up front but defensively they looked pretty good and have one of the best GK's in the league. West Ham looked very predictable and I'm sure they will continue to change until the transfer window closes

I agree. Both teams looked very average but I guess for the first game of the season that's to be expected. Thought Don Cowie looked like Cardiff's best player. Cardiff fans can enjoy their moment as it nearly always comes crashing down on them later in the season. Expect Malky to be out before we play them at home.

Means **** all in that league though. It's like a Japanese endurance. Sunderland lost their first 4 games in 07, were 12th about xmas and still won the league.

It was a ****e game mind.

Agreed - it was dire, an insult to the 25000 or so paying customers - although I suppose the taffys will have gone home happy with the result if not the performance.

I think Sam Allardyce is capable of taking West Ham up, although I don't make them favourites.

But even if West Ham walk the league, I can't believe that Hammers fans will stand for Allardyce. It's like Aidy Boothroyd taking over as Netherlands boss.

Talking about the other game at Wembley, interesting to note that the 'play till United score rule' extends to Charity games too.

I didn't think it was a bad game and was fairly competitive throughout. Probably just early season nerves and too much expectation. There could have been more goals and I was not at all convinced with Cardiff's defence - they rode their luck on more than one occasion.

I also didn't think it was too bad a game in terms of chances etc, but generally both teams weren't too impressive. I think West Ham really lacked a cutting edge, something Carew will provide in terms of being able to hold the ball up. Cardiff have had to change their whole team, and even most Cardiff fans would accept its not for the better. I expect West Ham to be right up there, not so sure about Cardiff and Mackay myself.
