...That the transfer window really is total balls.

(Apologies if this post is somewhat all over the place, haven't slept much.)

I dont think I've ever seen this much negativity as a result of the transfer window. What is even stranger, when we break it down, is why the negativity exists. Apart from the sale of Jordan, nothing has happened.

Herein lies the problem, lack of activity is seen as negative by fans. There is a ridiculous pressure to do something, anything, and whilst to an extent I agree that a few tidbits of transfer news would ease my heart rate, on the other hand the rumours of Gyan being flogged make me also consider that perhaps no news is good news.

Also been reading this terribly negative thread over on RTG:
    http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=600769

A few points in there about Short's approach to the club and how his interest may be waning, whilst based on nothing but internet gossip, there is a point in it. He bought the club on the cheap seeing it as a potential cash cow, invested heavily and is at the point of negative equity, hence the sales of Bent and Jordan to counterbalance this.

Whilst it would be naive to suggest that Short is purely in this for footballing reasons, there is a certain ruthlessness financially that can be seen from the last 6 months at SAFC.

But this brings me back to my original point, all this rumour mongering, all this speculating, is borne purely from the panic that the enforced timeframe that the transfer window imposes upon clubs.

So let me run a short reality check.

The transfer window isnt technically open yet, still over two weeks until that happens, yet for some reason the fact we know theres a timeframe seems to create this pressure to do as much as possible in as short a time as possible.

In regards to our own situation, yes our loan signings have returned (But how many would you realistically want back?), and Bolo has left, but only Jordan has been sold, and at a very attractice price (Admittedly if Gyan goes I will start to worry).

I like to look at other clubs (Besides ourselves and the Mags) and see their current situation. Search on Google news for another club in a similar position to ours, Stoke for example, and you'll see that theres very little transfer speculation from major news sources, less than us it seems. Also notice rumours linking one of their best players with a move away (Shawcross). People need to calm down and lose the idea that we are alone in having a quiet pre-season, bringing players in that is, and that I think people are comparing ourselves to Newcastle far too much who by contrast have had a bit of a transfer whirlwind unlike any other Premier League club (Except Liverpool).

<ok> Agree with what your saying mate. With Liverpool moving early on to get Henderson and Man U capturing Jones people forget that there is still ample time to bring the right players in and as I've said before I'm sure SAFC have a few surprise signings 'up their sleeves' that nobody knows about yet.

As for that site it's normally comedy gold, I'm sure 90% of the posters should be on suicide watch! :emoticon-0127-lipss

Agree about the surprise signings. How many people predicted Angeleri or Riveros in advance? OK lets forget their performances, but taking the reporting of how we signed them into account, it was hardly front page stuff was it?

Also, dont forget the loan market. Yes it didn't work out for us this time round, except perhaps Nedum (Who Id like to see signed for under 6million) but we have had success there in the recent past, Im sure many of us would love to see Hutton back. There could be a few surprises there.

Ive also got an outside suspicion we could see Muntari back, provided he doesn't get many offers, we could simply be waiting it out so Inter lower their demands, as does Sulley with his wages.
