Ivanovic and his 1.5 feet off the ground slide tackle was not a red.. according to ****** chavs. Of course they only lost because of that..!? I think not. What do you all think as this is a benchmark for decisions on such tackles this year. I bet the chav scum thought Kompany should have went for his last year, this is just another of those where no player was hurt yet a red was given, I can understand why. I personally think it had to be red to discourage people trying to do just what he did to then get it wrong and injure a player. The outcome wasn't bad in the end but if someone else sees him get away with that and makes a mess of it and clatters a player, giving the sh!t yellow would encourage others to do so
Of course it was a red! The city man manages to ride the tackle but if he'd planted that foot it would have snapped his leg. The tackle was by no means spiteful but it was a red none the less.
Its a tough one really and I have to admit to being torn on this issue. No question dangerous tackles need to be stamped out(no pun intended) but in some ways its going too far; sending a player off for winning the ball in a tackle is a bit unfair but at the same time if the intention is there(and thats the crucial element that nobody can really know) then it needs to be stopped. On this occasion it was a red, however not sure the Rodwell on Suarez or the Spearing versus Fulham were reds. In all honesty the thing that pisses me off more than anything is the disparity between the media/commentators from one challenge to the next, and the big one for me is the bias of the fans of that particular team or its opponents. Many of footballs problems could be avoided if the fans had more honesty and integrity and judged situations on the reality rather than the agenda that serves their particular team!
If I were the referee I woulda given a yellow card. The red card is being brought out too often and he had won the ball, however it was definitely a foul. You need to stop it but sending a player off for winning the ball is unjustifiable, a yellow card was all it needed and very tough talking to, refs need to learn how to manage the game a little better these days
I tend to agree, however not sure how rash, stupid challenges can be stopped without such decisions. To leave it for refs to judge in the heat of the moment is a little bit unfair really. Perhaps it would be best to have a panel of ex pros who could look at these challenges in retrospect and decide punishments? Or perhaps bans could be imposed depending on the length of an injury , not so sure but its not working as it is for sure!
Managers and coaches need to get on top of this. They need to curve the agressive nature of some of these tackles and prevent players getting injured. We want to see 11v11 at all times and we dont want players getting injured stopping us watching them every week. At the end of the day its the football thugs of the 80s that created the divers we have today. Skillful players flopping at the slightest touch to protect themselves from defenders that used to go out and deliberately hurt opponents.
The FA need to change the rule where it say's that they can't go against the ref's decision. If the ref has missed a bad tackle then they should be able to pull the player in front of them and fine/punish them
although there was not much contact, that was just in this case, his studs made contact with the players ankle, it is not what damage was done but what could have been. If others can get this then.. Ivanovic should too, it has already been shown last season that such tackles are no longer tolerated though consistency is a biggest issue with it. This time no injured player, will it always be that way though or do we wait for someone to have their career ended before we say enough of this stupidity, Ivanovic made an error and did that to make up for his error in positioning, get it right first time and you wont ahve to make wreckless tackles, both feet off the turf at the point of contact even if he won the ball its red
Not sure how people can defend the tackle, Townsend was ****ing driving me mad!! IMO if that isn't a red card I don't know what is.
I'm not sure that you are totally right. How can you expect a ref to measure aggressiveness. If I commit to a tackle with more intent than an opponent then surely there is also a responsibility on the opposing player to either accept that tackle or pull out? Yes we do need to ensure that reckless and foul tackles receive a caution but we cannot continue to destroy the very nature of the game. Football is a contact sport. Strength and skill both have their part to play. I'm not advocating going back to the days of cynical Italian defending or the days of Norman Hunter and Chopper Harris. A foul tackle is a foul. However I'm getting tired of prim a donnas screaming when they are tackled robustly.
It is auitocratic in the sense that, if certain criteria are met its red. Two feet, both off the turf, contact made. All enough for a red card. If those above are met the interpretation is no longer needed, this was a worse offence than Kompany's Joe Cole's or Spearings red. Just because the outcome was not bad matters not IF the criteria for a straight red were met, they were and he got red, sore loser chavs will argue no but ffs blame Ivanovic for getting himself in that mess and he sure as fook knew if he goes in two feet off the ground he may get a red. Chavs can blame him not the ref.
At least he wasnt left in the rather embarrassing situation where chelsea win it and terry has his kit ready and waiting for him. "come on Ivan, time to celebrate with me, John Terry, Champions League winner extrodanaire" (sp?)
Not like it matters. The suspension isn't going to be carried into the season as the FA class the community shield as a non-competitive, pre-season game.
This is correct.. A tackle is a last ditch effort to win the ball after being in the wrong position. This is why I don't and have never rated the likes of Scott Parker who is constantly in the wrong place and makes 100s of necessary tackle every season :S
