According to Sky Sports Gazidis intimated that the Uzbeki businessman, who is worth an estimated £11.8billion, is unlikely to be ever invited onto the board and Usmanov was reportedly ready to hand Wenger a huge sum of cash so that the squad could be strengthened . http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11670/7798652/Arsenal-chief-warns-Usmanov The only one not welcome here is you Ivan
Gazidis said: "When I arrived three-and-a-half years ago there had been a lot of changes on the board and some degree of conflict. "Since then we have worked hard to ensure the board is unified and has a common purpose. "In terms of further additions, it is important we don't disturb that unity and create conflict. "Ultimately, that is a board decision but that will be the critical issue - are we all aligned and facing the same direction?" This last paragraph is telling. Apart from making it a nice and cosy boys club Gazidis, is this direction going to make us more successful or better?
Since his arrival, Arsenal have been steadily getting weaker, he can say what he likes about board unity but the club has been suffering because of their actions and will continue to suffer until we get someone like Usmanov in to provide funding to strengthen our team. Every year we are told that we have 50 Million or so to spend however when the transfer window opens we are told we cant even afford to buy players who are 20 Million so what the hell is happening to all the funding? I think Silent Stan has been taking the money for his other investments in America and just sees as a feeder to increase his profits. How is this any better than Usmanov? he might be dodgy but at least he is willing to use his money to strengthen the club unlike Stan!
no - the cash is put into short-term investments. result? Anyone valuing the club shares will see a strong Balance Sheet. Stan is working on strengthening the Club valuation - not dipping his fingers in the pot. As a key shareholder thats good for longer term profit. Of course anyone else holding shares will also benefit - when they are ready to sell.
And how do these short term investments help in buying players, forgive my ignorance in this but by the sounds of it they are just trying to increase the worth of their respective shares which benefits them but not the team or am I misinterpreting what you mean?
what is the point in bringing in a big billionaire at the moment? sure a few years ago it would have been useful, but now with the FFP rules they should become completely pointless. smart move to keep him out considering his background, but gazidis is useless as well.
Given the clubs finical condition I think this would be the perfect time to bring in Uzmanov, we can afford to make a few big name purchases without breaking the FFP rules and its hardly like he would completely overhaul the team. Were talking about him being on the board this does not mean he would be able to do everything he likes were not like Chelsea who have 1 man in charge. To be honest I dont see how the FFP rules will even be enforced with the likes of Chelsea and City around spending crazy sums.
Usmanov would be the biggest mistake ever. If the current party ever get ousted in Russia he's pretty much doomed. There is soo much dirt on Usmanov its ridiculous.
you could say the same about Chelsea's owner given his background is also very shady, it unlikely that the current party will be ousted anytime soon. The club is slowly dying everyone can see it, we are getting weaker every year and without a serious injection of money and change to our structure, we will continue to get weaker. We are now beginning to struggle to attract big names to the club and are having a hard time keeping our best players. If this carries on we will just become a feeder club to other big clubs around Europe. How are we meant to convince the likes of RVP to stay when we cant seriously offer him a chance to win the title or any other major awards. Our first team is ok but not brilliant however our squad as a whole is awful.
the clubs spending what they are spending must know something we don't know because they haven't curbed their spending. I say screw FFP in that case.
I just don't understand all this FFP rules? You have Chelsea going out on a nice spending spree but will it affect them? What about Man City's huge wages, the same with Real Madrid? You have PSG buying big now and willing to pay loads in wages. Will FFP really make a difference or will teams like Man City get around it by bringing in a £500m sponser for 10 years or something simularly crazy....
FFP is the Emperor's New Clothes. UEFA dare not ban anyone with any clout. It would swiftly bring the end of their control of European Club Football.
Firstly lets not be melodramatic. The club is not 'slowly dying'. We're actually in a pretty damn healthy position. We need to invest in our squad to compete with Europe's elite but if we dont do it all that will happen is things will stay the same. We are churning out and snapping up quality young players on a regular basis - this actually keeps the club in a 'safer' position than those who are purely relying on an individuals resources.. Obviously if the club want to win things they need to stop selling our best players but if they dont we'll just keep performing at a simular level to what we have for the last 7 years.(which isnt bad at all - just not quiet where we would like to be)
Actually we will be worse off because those around us will will be spending more and those behind us will be closing the gap and overtaking us. I remember a while a go, there was a threat by some of the big clubs to break away from UEFA, to form a Euro super league of some sort. Didn't UEFA come up with the Champion's League as an answer ? If the same big clubs decide to go it alone - UEFA will be screwed, lets be honest, UEFA are not needed - much like Formula 1 doesn't need Ecclestone
we were quite lucky to get into the top four this season, things wont stay the same because teams around us are getting stronger you say that we bring in young players but we cant even keep them (our best ones) Cesc was considered one of our youngsters but we couldnt keep him, Nasri left shortly after and now Walcott is stalling on his contract, when a time comes that we cant even keep our youngsters from leaving then what happens to us. Before Wenger was considered shrewd selling players when the time was right, however Cesc and Nasri left in their primes. I'm not content with our current position and we should be up there with the likes of City and United. United this season were rubbish yet they finished 19 points ahead of us, to me that is a disaster and unless we start spending we will not improve on this.
Yes and we keep replacing them! if that was'nt the case we would have fallen down the ladder already. Fabregas and Nasri get sold - Wilshere and Oxo come in, its been like this for the last few years. if we want to progress we have to stop selling our best players but we dont need a billionaire. Our scouting and youth systems should'nt be underated they are now very very good.
I understand that our youth system is very good, what I am saying is that there may come a time when we cant even keep our youngsters who we are developing and disrespect to Wilshire and ox but I think that not as good as the people they replaced. I think Wilshire will eventually be a better midfielder than Cesc and the Ox will be very good, however its impossible say that are replacements yet because they simply are not on the same level. and as much as I dislike Nasri, he brought a number of problems out namely that our board is content with our current performance and will not strengthen our squad. I cant blame him for going to City to try and win things, its players like that we needed to keep as they have that winning mentality. If RVP leaves who will replace him? none of our youth are even close..in fact all of strikers are miles behind RVP. If he goes then we lose our best player (again).
The truth is if Man U, Man City, Chelsea, PSG, Marseille, Borussia, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid all form a super league, the Uefa Champions League would be pointless. The Champions League will no longer have the best teams playing in it and everyone would watch the new super league. As an Arsenal fan, unless we we're playing, i wouldn't give 2 sheets about the rest of the teams, a bit like the Channel 5 cup...
