That was a bit of a turn up for the book when everyone was looking at Uncle Harry for the job. I think this is a really good appointment choice.

The man comes with absolutely no baggage whatsoever. No taxman fued, no dodgy past of any kind and a CV that is most impressive however you look at it. He sounds like one of the most boring blokes on the planet next to the other Roy in Corry but who need characters. We have had them and failed many times. Good on the FA for this one I say and a more qualified man for the job they could not have found.

I agree he's well qualified, with lots of experience, including managing abroad. He's a bit like Luggy's older brother, good at making a success with limited resources but his one failure was at Liverpool. As the article on the BBC website asks, he was forced out of Liverpool because he wasn't Kenny Dalglish, will he be forced out of the England job because he's not Harry [foreign bank account] Redknapp?

PS I'm not sure if the big-egos in the England squad will welcome being referred to as "limited resources" but they look pretty damn limited to me at times......

The problem is not the manager, Fabrio also came with an excellent CV. It's the players who are lacking, if only they were as good as their ego's suggest. Rooney won't sing the national anthem and openly admits the champion's League is more important to him than playing for his country - David Beckham he is not! In my opinion some of the palyers simply don't care enough.

We are ok at defending but we have no fire of flair up front. England have to be the most boring side to watch on the planet.

Also Hodgson comes cheap.........his contract at WBA is coming to an end.....so no compensation to pay.

So basically the England job is a poisoned challace and one nobody in their right mind should want. I don't disagree with that or with the assessment of the players either. The problem is that premiership players today are vastly overpaid and given cult status by the media as only rock stars of the past enjoyed. There simply is nothing in it for themselves so in my opinion they just aren't bothered about even playing let along winning anything. When you look at the attitude of the players of bygone years and think that most would have crawled across hot coals to play for their country the current lot are a disgrace. I think that people do Roy a disservice when they describe him as a cheap option. He has the right credentials for the job however you dress it up and is more qualified to do it than any of the others on offer if you want an English manager. With all the speculation previously though people are going to say cheap and second best as Harry was thought to be a shoe in. The man will be on a hiding to nothing before he even starts.

I tend to agree with you there Rocky Blue Army.

Pearce may not be a tactical genius or have huge experience but he's a patriot and if even some of his passion could rub off on our over-paid prima donnas, we'd at least go down fighting and playing an English style [referees permitting that is].

I have a feeling Hodgson [who I do have a lot of time for] will be pilloried by the tabloid press for his languid style and let's be honest - his age. The Sun is probably of the opinion you can find a 30-something manager with sharp dress sense AND 25 years of management experience!

I disagree about the 30-something manager with a sharp dress sense......the rest is probably true.

Pearce has clearly said he does'nt want the job if offered beyond the Euros. As John Motson said this morning it was no surprise to him, as on qualifications and experience he fits the bill, and we all got caught up in the media hype about Harry. For once the F.A have probably made the right choice, well done Roy it can only get better after the over rated Italian.

Hodgsons problem at Liverpool was player power and the shadow of Dalglish.....other than that he has achieved more than his share of success.....especially abroad... and left a strong influence on Scandinavian football....the FA have gone with the easy and cheapest option.

Hodgson is on the way up.........Liverpool are still on the way down.

Liverpool must of been slightly miffed by Fulham fans singing pro-Hodgson songs last night.

Liverpool got rid of Hodgson.......Fulham and WBA couldn't get enough of him.

Liverpool must also be on the verge of a heart attack and a stiff neck from looking at Everton above them in the league......there worst home season since 1948/49.

Yes, that's what worries me. Liverpool's dressing room is a kids' nursery compared to the over inflated egos in the England camp. After all, they don't get paid by England so why should they care?

The media have already asked the question....at Hodgsons unveiling...........what are you going to do about John Terry and Rio Ferdinand..........typical media.

In my opinion the question is easily answered......he will speak to them of course........but he doesn't need to pick either.......they are both clapped out after hard seasons and injuries........leave them at home and definitely ........PICK YOUR OWN CAPTAIN WITH THE FUTURE IN MIND...........Hodgson cannot be blamed for what ever disaster happens this coming summer.

Hodgson has two matches to complete his WBA season, before he takes over England.

Already the SUN newspaper is having ago at a so called speech impediment he has.........it never crossed my mind that he even had an impediment......but thats a Murdock paper for you.
