Well if I was doing well at a club I wouldnt want to unsettle any of my players or fans before the deal was done (Im pretty sure its almost complete though). I heard it from the same person who told me about Jewell just before he was appointed. I dont say much on here but its usually right.

There are many supporters at football clubs who like to take the sentimental approach, nothing wrong with that, but in reality it does not usually get the best candidate, sure it will bring a big buzz, but in reality, a proven track record is needed. Terry Butcher has not got a good record in management, the mess we are in requires a manager been there, and done it, like you are indicating, Norwich learnt their lesson with Gunn, nice chap, but think it proves what happens when you let sentiment get in the way of logical thought.

Not quite like Gunn is it? Butcher has years of managerial experience.

Well, He's not a stand out candidate, doesn't strike me as an obvious option either. he has an average record (in Scotland) and has been known to talk a bit of nonsense at times, for me he only appeals because of his link to us - could turn out to be a shrewd appointment so I won't be too happy or unhappy as he's very middle of the road to me

Of all of our famous players, Butcher strikes me as the one who deserves the 'legend' tag least. Since he left for Rangers in the 80s he hasn't shown much affection for the club and his comments today 'it's where I started my career' don't endear him to me particularly. Perhaps he was disappointed that Robson moved on and that it was downhill from there, but I think it's the generation just before him we should regard in the highest esteem. As a manager, he has got ICT promoted but that's it really. He's been far from a success in most of his positions.
