THE wife of former Hull City striker Dean Windass has hinted the pair could get back together after his attempted suicide.

Helen Windass revealed the Tigers legend has asked if he could go back to her and their two children.

It comes after ex-striker Dean revealed he had left his family home and made two attempts to kill himself, as he struggles with depression.

Mrs Windass, in an interview with a Sunday tabloid newspaper, said: "Dean has asked me to come back.

    "He wants his family back.

"We need to discuss our relationship once he has had his treatment, because so much has gone on, but I hope we can sort it out.

"I will support him 100 per cent through this treatment and I won't turn my back on him. He is desperate to get better.

"I am proud he has faced up to his problems, for his sake and the kids.

"I just hope he can change."

Dean took Hull City into top-flight football for the first time in the club's history when his volley rocketed into the back of the net in the play-off final in 2008.

But as recently revealed, for the past two years, he had found solace in the bottom of a bottle, as he fought a daily battle with depression.

Mrs Windass, who split from Dean last November after he had an affair, said: "When I found out Dean had tried to kill himself, of course I was very, very upset.

"I did not cry though, because I did all that when he left me and the children.

"Telling our boys that their dad had tried to take his life was the hardest thing."

Dean is now staying at a friend's house in Leeds while he waits for a place to become available at the Sporting Chance Clinic in Hampshire, which has treated a number of high-profile stars.
