I just has turned into a Big Bottlers race. Of two North London bottlers Spuds are the best again, but it may be not for long - we have another chance against West Brom.
THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT BEING AN ARSENAL FAN THESE DAYS IS BEING SAFE IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT SPURS WILL ALWAYS BE EVEN MORE ****ING USELESS THAN US. Well that and the over use of 'CAPS LOCK'. IT MAKES MY OPINIONS MORE VALID.
If we do get 3rd - its the duty of the fans to ensure that Wenger is called to account in the offseason. We cannot have another season of bottling like the last 2. He must not get away with the pretence that this has been a good year.
Keep RVP. Get cover for Rosicky and Wilshere (he is likely to need time to get to his best form). Sell Walcott, buy someone who is useful throughout the game. (IMO) Buy a quality LB. (IMO) I don't think even that will make us competitive with Man. City, but we should be closer.
Like many others, I'm not expecting us to compete with City/Chelsea financially but all I ask is for a decent performance and a decent team. I'm not one of those fans that want unrealistic expectations. I think even if Arsenal buy a few decent players (we have one already) I don't expect us to be favourites to win the PL/CL. All I want (as others have expressed in here) is a team with a spine, some back bone and with some balls. A team that doesn't bottle it when the pressure gets tough. If I were to see this and yet still be trophyless due to the other teams just being better then I would have no qualms. But for over seven seasons, this has been the case. Look at Newcastle, they've overachieved considering their squad. Arsenal have underachieved. It's as simple as that.
Liverpool have underachieved. Us? With the quality and depth of this squad compared to say Man City, we've probably overachieved. It's just that our expectations are higher, and as fans we don't particularly care that we keep getting CL football with no top class transfer in YEARS.
at any rate whatever we want done with regards to summer MUST be done before the euros subsequent to which transfer fees may soar and any players intending to hold us ransom will be well and truly on top.
Let's be realistic, even if we have a really good first 11 we will NEVER have the quality in depth Man City had this season. It's unreal, they have 2 top class players for every position almost. That is something we can never realistically expect to have. But even with that they've left Man Utd a chance with one of their worst teams in years.
I don't care about Liverpool but that could be us soon if we carry on how they have. They went from title contenders in the 08/09 season to a mid table club. And, they spent over 100million while we didn't so we can't compare. An 8-2 drubbing is not overachieving. Relying on player throughout most of the season (Arsene's own words) is not over achieving. Throwing away leads is not over achieving. Just because we can't compete with City in terms of depth (which I have explicitly stated) the gap in points is a disgrace. I've already said I don't expect us to compete for the title but our performances and squad have been dire this season.
i agree with your previous comment with regards to showing desire etc but united lost 6-1 yet i would say they have overachieved this season rooney is not far behind rvp in terms of scoring every team has bottled it some time or another this season....newcastle aside i agree though that we do to an extent need an overhaul and show some more desire. Wengers a great manager but is waaayyy too soft and isn't as adventurous as he used to be e.g use of AOC. In addition hes to sentimental with regards to showing loyalty to his players. Hopefully bould can alter some of that.
I agree with this completely but that's my point. Man Utd, even if they end up trophyless this season have overachieved. How can such a weak squad have pushed money bags city to the last day for the title? What do Man Utd have that Arsenal don't? Clearly it's the manager. If Ferguson can somehow inspire such an average squad to nearly win the title, then why can't Wenger? And while Man Utd may just edge us in terms of quality players man for man... the gap between us and them is way too huge. But overall, I agree with your point.
