Welcome back John...you've got unfinished business in Bristol. If we can't survive and then progress under Ward then all hope has gone.
he need patience though. non of this wrong man for the job crap if we dont win straight away. he needs to install passion into the players who have let down MM. MM didnt motivate or get the best from the players. these players better work hard for ward as higgs are not impressed with the players going by the interview.
I'm really happy with John Ward a good honest football man.Hope Tilson comes back as well The pride in are club is coming back.Well done Higgs now lets all get behind the club .
Didn't you lot sack him? Good replacement you should now see an improvement. I liked him at City and really think he got us playing tidy football, just we went stupid and got Benny!!
OK so we have another journeyman to take up the reigns. But in the circumstances the Board would not have wanted to take any more risks with a potential 'upandcummer'. Probably good timing too before Ward was offered a job the other side of town! At some stage someone needs to sort this lot out, because whatever the manager does, he ain't one of the guys on the pitch!!
someone correct me if im wrong, but yes we sacked him. luton showed an interest in him and apparently he went to luton for an interview for the managers job. he did this without permission and rovers board sacked him for this.
My memory is dodgy but I think his contract was up. He hesitated over his new contract 'cos he was angling after the manager's job at another club (Luton/Watford?). The board hung about and then said sod it. The pity is I think it would have been great if Holloway had come back to us and worked with/under Ward.
From the daily mail http://footballleagueblog.dailymail.co.uk/2012/12/mondays-talking-point-ward-must-drink-from-poisoned-challis-on-rovers-return.html
John Ward said he must be crazy to have taken on the Bristol Rovers job following his appointment on Monday afternoon, and he may just have a point. The 61-year-old former Colchester boss returns for a second stint at the Memorial Stadium having been in charge of the Pirates from 1993 to 1996, and he will be hoping to buck the recent trend of managerial failure at the club. Rovers chewed up and spat out another manager in the form of Mark McGhee at the weekend in the wake of a humiliating 4-1 at York which has left the club languishing in the relegation zone and in danger of falling out of the Football League despite plenty of investment in the playing staff during his year in charge. McGhee's appointment in January 2012 appeared something of a coup by the club, as did his signings of Scotland internationals Garry Kenneth and David Clarkson, but the club never got going under his stewardship. McGhee suffered a similar fate to that of his predecessor Paul Buckle, who arrived from Torquay in the summer of 2011 with a burgeoning reputation and a tidy transfer kitty before also flattering to deceive. The list goes on... Dave Penney too looked a shrewd appointment in January 2011 but he had gone within two months with the club freefalling on their way to relegation from League One. There is no obvious reasons why McGhee, Buckle and Penney all failed at a club with a healthy budget given their league status and a relatively patient chairman given the modern climate. Ward, who turned down a Director of Football role at Plymouth to return to Rovers, said on Monday: 'Part of me thinks I'm crazy, but part of me is excited about this fantastic challenge.' Only time will tell if Ward is crazy, but he certainly is brave.
Is it 5 managers in 2 years now?.....thought I heared that mentioned on radio Bristol this morning. Long gone are the days of loyalty to a manager and giving him time. It has to be instant success or nothing nowadays......our own Delboy is still somehow hanging on, which given our current plight in this modern game is a bloody miracle! Good appointment for you imo I am sure he will get you out of the drop zone.....
CCR reading that link that seamge put up above which gas copied and pasted, here is the bit that made me laugh... 7th guy in charge in 2 years since trolls was sacked.... paterson, penney, campbell, buckle, north, mcghee and now ward. is this really a sign of a relatively patient chairman?
