Yes November 13th, not December 13th. ****ers posting xmas ****e all over already. Daft twats in santa suits with reindeer mincing around city centres already. Xmas promotions starting. No doubt it wont be long till some chavs put up a tree and lights. NOVEMBER 13TH. STOP JUST STOP YOU PIKEY ****WITS. Rant over. What gets you annoyed? Can a mod add an ot tag please.
Whatever happened to the Boxing Day sales which now start on 1st December just to boost the Xmas sales figures, everything is done in a rush these days. Mental.
Scrooged just starting on e4+1. The bloke says "Now a film we usually show on Christmas day, why we are showing it mid November is anyone's guess. Just thank your lucky starts we're not showing it in July." ****ing shameless.
In Thailand? Until recently nothing to do with Christmas was on display over here until 1st December at earliest then a couple of Brit CEOs were appointed to some supermarket and chain stores and now it starts on 1st November, fortunately the shops do not get packed, by our standards, until just before Christmas.
I don't mind it, the radio and the post-Xmas stuff is way more annoying. I used to look at it negatively because I'm completely against consumerism as a source of fulfilment, but nowadays it's more about having a good excuse to go out with friends and family. The European Xmas market is in town, bratwurst and a few beers, nowt to do with Xmas but it's great imooc.
When I lived in Germany in the 70s and 80s the traditional markets were lovely places to go to as t was meant for people to buy the traditional German food and religious things. The bratty wagon, gluh wine and commercial stalls were always on the fringes. In North Rhine present night was St Martin then Christmas was totally religious. Not sure if things have changed much but I suspect it would be for the commercial worst.
I'm sure it has changed a lot mate, but to me, it's just a nice night(s) out, getting your winter coat and hat on, heading out for a bit of food and a few beers. I'm sure these things were much better, to you back in the day than they would be now but for me the religious parts not being central to the Manchester Christmas Market is just a bonus. There's still people who have carved wooden nativity scenes for sale, religious decorations and so on... I'm sure plenty of people appreciate that sort of thing too, but it doesn't really have me rushing to the cash machine. This is the best lie ever told, because it works... even those who are atheist to the core, will celebrate Christmas, traditionally or otherwise.
I think there's something in the human psyche that makes us want to celebrate at that time of year. 25th December was Dies Natalis Solis Invicti to the Romans long before Christianity turned it into Christmas.
Don't actually mind the consumerism, stimulates the economy big style, the run up and the sales. It would stimulate it a lot more if the bastard company's paid full tax so it can be reinvested into the country. It's only half as helpful as it could be. Everything else does my nut in. Hate cheesy activity me and Christmas happens to be the biggest corn fest of the lot.
It's like cos it's the end of the year we are allowed a blow out before the next one starts and everybody gotta fix up and start being good, at least for a few hours until it goes tits up again.
