Just watched some of Clint's bit being showed on FF tomorrow and can't help wondering if too much focus is on PROFESSIONALISM !! Just look at our best side ever. Stan Bowles - degenerate gambler best player ( IMO ) we have ever had /Gerry Francis - great professional absolute machine on the pitch love watching him against Scotland - joyous ! Without them we were nothing. JOEY what a twat but on the field 100% every time - not always good but totally committed - surely it is about the blend which HR is very good at - opinions please.
I haven't seen the programme so am currently unaware of what Hill exactly said. But, if he put a greater emphasis on professionalism above a number of attributes, then he's right, of course, isn't he? If I was the manager of a football club it would be reasonable for me to assume that the players that make up my squad have the requisite skills, else they'd either be moved on or not acquired by the club in the first place. So, if that's a given, the important aspect is how they apply their skills, which comes down to professionalism. Yes, Stan was and still is a gambler. But had this affected his work on the pitch he'd quickly have been dropped. I believe this was the case from time to time. Warnock's book illustrates the extraordinary lengths he went to indulge Adel Taantrum, a player clearer lacking in professionalism. For Redknapp to cleanse the squad and eradicate the bad attitudes it makes sense to completely clear out all those with poor ethics and start again.
