Ferrari win. They've been better at pole on high down force low speed corners etc so they should have a long procession race. Expect 4 safety cars here.
IMO liberty's love of safety cars could play a part but if they work out well for the teams in terms of timing I can see: a) someone put hards on and trundle round slowly blocking half the field then get a free stop and then do the same on mediums. b) Some will probably get screwed over with a safety car having pitted and then see everyone else get a free stop. c) we will be treated to croft mouthing off about the chicane after the tunnel like as if anyone is going to pass anyone and he will finish up saying closing closing but not close enough or some such stupidity. d) whoever is in front after first corner "usually" wins so only pit stop or failure can prevent it.
I’m certain Leclerc will be the one who deserves to win, but this is the race where it’s hardest to be robust against random events.
Welcome to F1's greatest test of driver skill, probably its most illustrious prize, and maybe its greatest link to the glamour of early motorsport.
I think the greatest skill bit is quali, after that it's usually a bit boring - but I will watch it all! As for most illustrious prize - the drivers do seem to relish a win here. As to glamour of early motorsport was that a thing or just the same as nowadays when 'celebs' are paraded up and down showing little interest in anything but themselves?
There would have been that of course, but in the early days it helped to be an aristocrat of some sort to be able to afford to race.
I’d absolutely love to see Fred stick it on pole here in a surprise but can’t see past one of the Ferraris if they keep it on the road. Their car seems to have all the right characteristics for this weekend. That said, last year saw Norris within a tenth of pole I think in a Macca that wasn’t known for high DF, and Ferrari suddenly were front row material having been well off in Barcelona. For those of you who like a Barcelona sector 3 reference: FP3: can’t find the quali sector times annoyingly
Is it my imagination or are there no cameras between the hairpin and the chicane after the tunnel? Only seems to be the on boards through the tunnel!
Can’t be having Nat Pinkham commentating on practice either, it really is ****. She’s a fine pit lane reporter but stay out the comm box mate. I could say the same to Crofty though
Fred? If you mean Alonso, I would love that. Like the others I think it will be a bore of a race unless we see an unexpected incident. I will watch as I want to see what the Merc does, particularly George. I think most likely a Ferrari win which I would be happy with.
for me the issue here is it never bloody rains. Its a procession in cars that have grown so big they can't get round and look to be really too delicate for wheel bumping now. when did it last really rain here? I recall some dramatic races here with loads of dnfs causing chaos or with rain sorting men from boys. Its all about quali.
