I would accept McDermott but I do feel we have an opportunity to get someone far greater in

Uninspiring choice. Inherited a decent squad at Reading, was found out when it came to adding his own players. Also there's a big difference between managing a small provincial club like Reading and a club the size of Leeds United. The job will be too big for him - hope I'm wrong.

He inherited a squad that were hovering around where we are then took them to the play-off final in one season then won the league the next. I'm not sure who some people actually thought we could get.

And as for picking players, let's not forget his first major role at Reading was head scout, where he found the likes of Shane Long and Kevin Doyle.

Lets face it. Top managers have not been falling over themselves to get linked with this job. It's an odds-on poisoned chalice, with no support, no money, and a crap squad to start with. Only thing LUFC has going for it is the fans. Sad days indeed, and we have to be VERY realistic about what any manager can achieve with these restrictions.

He learns from his mistakes thats a big plus for me.

Warnock never thought he made mistakes and continued being ****

hopefully he will sign Alex McCarthy and Adam Le Fondre :) (can hope)

Should make for an interesting derby on Saturday with all of our players, especially those in their late 20s early
30s, keen to impress.

:D

Just goes to show how deluded some fans actually are. Still, after all of this time. WE AREN'T MAN U! NOR ARE WE ANY GOOD (don't paint over cracks). We are, unfortunately, a very less than average championship side with less than nowt - aside from a half decent academy set up and a great bunch (mainly) of fans. [Except the ones on forums who seem to still believe we are some european super power and potential title contenders.]

We can consider ourselves lucky that we got Maccy-D. Very lucky. (If he comes). We could have ended up with Coyle or worse Mark Hughes (*shudder*).

A great appointment. A fortunate appointment. A coherent appointment. Now give him 4 years as he needs to build a proper squad and not a NW squad. Quite frankly after NW if Maccy D does come then it will be like a breath of fresh air. He will set up a better scouting network, he has great contact, he is a clever man.

I am already looking at how many matches I can make next season now. Up until this week I wasn't going to go back. Depending on GFHC's actions during the summer and backing the new (good) manager however, I still may not. I don't blame them for not backing NW. I wouldn't have. Look at what QPR were dumped with....

Well, Brain [sic] if you do make it to ER you are welcomed with open arms, a pint of ale and a huge cheer. We need you, Jose Mourinhio just wasn't up to it I'm afraid....

MOT with Brain! Smash!

Must admit i laughed my butt off when you signed Warnock. But Mc. is a good signing for you guys <ok> <applause>

But dont expect instant success. He is inheriting a right croc of ****e <laugh>

Looks like it's (almost) official ....

Ben Jacobs ‏@JacobsBen 24m
Right, I have now had it CONFIRMED, straight from the horses mouth, that Brian #McDermott is the new Leeds manager

DAVID JONES ‏@DavidJonesSky 8m
Brian McDermott has pulled out of tonight's Footballers Football Show. I'm told he has a very good reason.

... or maybe not yet ....

Ian Abrahams ‏@BroadcastMoose 8m
talkSPORT understands that Brian McDermott will be confirmed as Leeds new manager tomorrow

... and now a wee backtrack ....

Ben Jacobs ‏@JacobsBen 1m
I am hearing, from the McDermott camp, an official announcement and press conference should take place tomorrow, once all formalities done

Ok, how the **** did you get that from my comment..... Because you seem to have read a hell of a lot into my 18 words.

I said he is an acceptable appointment but there are better out there and we had the opportunity to push the boat out and get someone better, I'm still happy for him to come and I would put my life on him being a better manager than Warnock or at least an easier one to deal with without cringing every time he talks. I'm hoping for this appointment to be long term, Warnock was never gonna be long term and I think we all knew deep down that Grayson wasn't gonna be particularly long term either. Now if (rather feel like I should be saying when now) McDermott gets appointed I still hope that it will be a long term appointment.

If we could've gotten Poyet (again that means pushing the boat out and actually spending some money) then I think that would've been the best choice, I also would've preferred Adkins but we just didn't act at all and it took Warnock walking for us to have the opportunity to bring in someone better. There are also other names out there that I would've preferred, doesn't mean I'm asking for Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola or anything.

I think he'll be a decent manager, but I'm not sure about the not cringing when he talks, did you ever see his post-match interviews on match of the day? Painful. I lost track of how many times he told us Reading should've won a game this year. That said, if he gets us playing good football I couldn't care less what he says in his press conferences <ok>

Kiwi

as long as I don't have to listen to Warnock telling me that Leeds should have won and this that n the other when I had just sat through 90 minutes of us getting absolutely mullered
