I heard this on the radio and when I heard the line "30 years of hurt" it dawned on me that England are in a similar position to Arsenal this season. We would have hit 10 years without a trophy if we hadnt wqon the FA Cup and England will be 50 years if we dont win the World Cup. FIFTY years <yikes>. I wonder if the Lightning Seeds will release a 20th anniversay special and change the 30 years to 50 years for the Euros in 2016?

Or maybe England could pull it off......its unlikely but COME ON ENGLAND.

Some would have said it was impossible for Hull to be 2-0 up within 10 minutes on Saturday. Believe.

As others have pointed out, I'm just glad Wales are so crap that they aren't in it and Ramsey can't get injured or knackered.

I'm still angry at Uri Geller using his mind to move the ball off the penalty spot when Gary McAllister missed vs. England at Euro 96 <grr>

As a punter I tend to work on odds and percentages for most things in life and England are currently a 33/1 shot.
That means they have a 3% chance of winning the world cup.
Not only do they have to overcome such odds but they also have to do something that's never been achieved, a European team winning a WC on American soil.
I'm not backing a European team but if I was I'd be backing Germany, Belgium, France and Spain before I backed England.
I think the price is about right, it won't stop be cheering them on, but no I don't believe.

Won't stop the media from talking them up when the tournament starts though.

Anyway, Brazil are clearly going to win, the whole thing has been set up for them to win from the get-go. FIFA are probably bored of Pele always droning on about something or other.

    Not so fast !!!

    I like Argentina.

The draw is set up for them to win their group, play Switzerland or Equador in the last 16, then their quarter final game is likely to be against Belgium or Portugal and as I said I can't back any European team against quality S American sides.
With all the troubles in Brazil expect the pressure to get to the home nation....

Why has it been set up for Brazil to in ? As hosts you would expect them to be favourites.

I think a lot will definitely depend on how Brazil deal with the pressure of being hosts and favourites.

IN my lifetime, I have never witnessed England beat a top-class/strong team in knock-out games. In Euro 96 we beat Spain on pens, in 1990 we beat Belgium, Cameroon. We tend to go out when we meet the first top class team (of the day). To win this world cup we will need to beat Brazil/Spain/Holland at the quarters, and then another big team , unless we got kcuky and got a plucky outsider in the semis.

Getting out of this group wil be good, actaully winning the group will be remarkable, getting the to semis will be incredible, and would probably mark this as a superb WC for us. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

Despite all that, I am hopeful.

No chance. The desperation is already kicking in for England when they've picked two players in Wilshere and OXO that aren't fully fit and neither of which had a season of note. A team that has yet to gel, with no experience in South America, and a manager that isn't anything special. It would take a special manager like Fergie or Maureen to get anything out from this team. It would be a big achievement if they survive their group....

I actually quite like watching England these days. I'll grant you the media will try and over-hype us (as always) but I find fewer and fewer people are getting sucked in and that level of expectation is off us. I can actually see us play and invariably lose without getting too bothered by it. Watching us on the international circuit makes you realise how behind some countries we are. I especially liked South Africa when the media was billing the battle of Rooney/Messi/Ronaldo! Like that fat f*ck is anywhere near their category.

I actually think we are pretty underrated this year and it could benefit us.

There have been England sides with more talent in the past but this one has a very good mixture of youth and experience.

We heave a tough group but I'm optimistic.
