But you need to follow them up http://www.greenun24.co.uk/ipswich-..._in_the_transfer_market_says_jewell_1_1170075 At least Jewell seemingly knows his flaws (unlike the Darklord) but he needs to follow up this statement with intent, I must admit it was quite refreshing to hear a statement like that, I just hope it wasn't another false dawn!
I actually agree with everything he says and that is why I havent called for him to go yet. It has been an exceedingly annoying season but I think part of that is due to the fact that his signings did look decent albeit short term. Based on what we knew about these players the likes of Bullard, Bowyer and Chopra should be good enough to ensure a top half finish this season. He has failings and the obvious 1 being no RB but even taking that into account the fact that these players have performed so badly as a team is something i dont think anyone was predicting. I wouldnt call a few of his signings inspired but they all, and I think I do mean all without exception, were more than capable of being solid 12 months ago.
The biggest point in all this is about 'giving youth a chance'. Now i know that he gets to see the players everyday in training, but why has he not given them a chance apart from a carling cup game against Northampton. Luke Hyam is a perfect example, you put him in a midfield with Bowyer would be a fantastic learning curve for him and would only improve the kid into at the very least solid championship player. We know he can perform at this level, so why not! Same with O'Connor, (Obviously he must have stepped out of line somewhere) but he could do the business as at the very least impact sub. Jaime Peters, again what a fantastic option to have on the bench with his pace in the last 20 mins. but not a sniff! It doesn't take a genius to work out these kids need game time, but in the right way. Don't bung them in all together they won't learn anything like that. Let them learn from the experienced players in proper games. I mean after all, what the hell have we got to lose!
He speaks a good game, at least he's willing to admit fault unlike the last 2 managers. HOWEVER we need results a s a p ........ !
It's not true that a width of a post or a good save can perception of a season, not unless you're going for titles, silverware or you stay up or go down by the skin of your teeth. My beef is not with Jewell anyway it's with Clegg. When you see history repeating like this you start to absolve Roy Keane of blame too.
Must say that i agree with you Hampy regards Clegg, If i had the choice of Clegg goes or Jewell goes, Clegg gets my vote everytime. Everytime Clegg gets involved something goes wrong, Charlie Austin was a prime example he was here ready to sign and Clegg ****ed it up, Shaun Derry is another exactly same thing happened. All the contracts running down, its up to Clegg to get them, sorted! not worry about scruffy turnstiles! The fact that the ground is half full most games is down to Clegg not having the brain cells to do family deals to get the young kids hooked to coming to games. Everything points to bad management from Clegg, I know the manager must take some blame but only being allowed to piss on a house fire isn't going to put it out!
But at the same time bringing in the odd youngster when we are on a losing streak could do more harm than good to their development. It would be great to bring them on for 20 minutes when we're winning but we are rarely in that position and now that we only have 5 subs we don't have room for the odd youngster on the bench (thanks to the idiots at the FA). I've been scratching my head as to why Carson is always left out because whenever he plays on the wing he creates / scores goals and I can only think it's for his personal development i.e. if he is played too often his ego will inflate and ruin him :S O'Connor looked ok when he played under Keane but the fact that he couldn't even get into Port Vale's starting line up suggests that he isn't good enough at this level. Not sure about Hyam either, nobody even wanted him on loan and I presume scouts have been watching him in reserves / friendlies. It is a refreshing interview with Jewell and it makes me think we should give him a chance to rectify the mistakes (as we have with other managers) although it's also concerning he made such obviously stupid mistakes in the first place. It's clear that in recent history the best way to do well in this league is to set out a 3 - 5 year plan and build a team, not throw together a bunch of prem league reject oaps. I assumed he was bringing in players with experience to buy himself some time to scout younger players but this interview makes it sound like he was going for promotion this season with his team of 30+'s
http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=19882&title=jewell:_ive_made_mistakes_ You beat me to it Guru! I juust think that this is a desperate PR exercise from a desperate man. Its all very well admitting to mistakes now but it's not as though these couldn't have been easily avoided. JEWELL OUT
JWM but surely you must admit that at least by admitting his mistakes he has no more excuses, its now at this moment the corner needs to be turned and if this isn't done then he isn't the man for the job. This month is do or die for Jewell now, with regards to targeting players. Also its good for somebody from Portman Road come out and say that things aren't rosy rather than bleating on about the colour of the turnstiles and such like!
Guru Haven't we been here before with Keane!?! We all praised him for at least being honest but where did that get us? I still stand by my opinion that for all these major mistakes Jewell must go for the good of the club. No act on contrition should save him. 8 Defeats out of 11 and 46 goals conceded in total and he should still be our manager!
All i am saying JWM, Is there is no place to hide for him now. If he still continues to go after washed up has beens then he can only expect the boot. If he doesn't give youth a chance, he can expect the boot. If results don't change, he will expect the boot. I just wish a certain CEO would get his head out of his own arse and look at his failings, rather than bleat on about ****ing turnstiles!
He obviously liked the colour of the new turnstiles! or he is angling for his office to be decorated!
If any further proof were needed that the man is seriously deluded! http://www.greenun24.co.uk/ipswich-...from_the_festive_period_says_jewell_1_1170618
I’m watching Huddesfield here. Jordan Rhodes has just knocked in his forty eighth hatrick of the season and he’s everything Priskin isn’t. He’s brave, he predatory, he attacks the ball, he attacks space, he knows what’s going on. Rhodes-Wickham partnership for nowt vs any combo of Chopra-Scotland-Priskin for however the much we shelled out for them. Not to mention Ellington’s wages. Edit: Rhodes has four.
Christ Rhodes is different level at the minute ! If I was their boss I would have taken him off at half time, another 4 goals is gonna attract more bids ! unreal !
