A canary caller called Adele, said live on the radio that, "as you all know football isn't down to skill it's down to luck" and we didn't get any!! So Adele if you're reading this, Man Utd winning the title year after year is all down to luck is it? Where the hell do we get some of our fans from?? Anyone know what Chris Hughtons wife's name is????
In fairness, there have been alot of games we have been unlucky to lose/not win this season. Now is not the time for self-pity but if the ref's got every decisions correct and the better team always won we would not be in this relegation scrap now.
DM, am I to assume that you agree with this half wit?? We're going to get relegated through being UNLUCKY!! I think you must be on the 7th rock from the sun son!
No! I never said that football was more about luck than skill. I simply make the point that games like QPR (h), Sunderland (a), West Ham (a), Tottenham (a) and so on that we should have won but were denied by poor refereeing. Nobody can claim that we did not deserve to win or draw those games, but we didn't because of bad luck with the decisions. There are others I could add like Arsenal (a) etc and so on. If we get relegated if will because too many games in this season we couldn't pass a football, but equally if everything was fair we would not be were we are now.
Errr she didnt say that, she said it was also down to luck and it is as well as thespian skills too sadly Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Careful, mate, I had a Pro-Hughton thread deleted from this board for being a whole lot less risque than mentioning his wife
The Arsenal one was the clearest. For me the worst refereeing decision of the season for us or probably anyone.
The ref yesterday was also "less than average". The AV left back, should have been red carded, and Benteke was close to a red also(hand round the neck)on Bassong Whether these decisions are "down to luck" I don't know, but we must all agree that "luck" has a major influance on most peoples lives.
Its pointless to start blaming referees for our present position. All clubs of our stature have bad decisions against them. We have put ourselves at risk to have them against us by this defensive approach and discouraged our chances by the lack of time the ball is passed (not crossed) in or to the area. If we go down its our fault, nobody else's.
Of course luck plays a major part in life right from the day you make it as one of the millions swimming towards that egg. But I am a firm believer you make your own luck. The teams at the top appear to be luckier because they are more positive. We were very lucky under Lambert. Remember Cinnamon's goal for instance? We are not positive at the moment and don't really deserve any luck. Of course Bennet should have gone yesterday. But he didn't and had nothing to do with their winner. But that shouldn't affect they way we defend. And we will never know, but we might have wasted a member of the 25 man squad by taking on extra keepers who haven't exactly become crowd pleasers with their brilliant displays. We had two, young, but capped by their country, goalkeepers who had played in the Prem so those of us who highlighted that point at the time might well be proven to be correct. And although we passed the ball better yesterday, we created few chances and all the good work was undone when Wes was taken off and Kamara brought on signalling hoofball again. So why did we deserve any good luck when we were chancing it to luck to score a goal? And I'm sorry all you Holt supporters, he just goes out to hurt people now. He is missing everything that comes his way.
I've been away for the weekend and only just looked on here. Rich44, Yes it was, they are her almost exact words! DM, the games you mention, Yes we should have won them, but it wasn't the referee who infulenced that it was our absolute refusal to get forward and score goals, I was at all those games and came away wondering who we didn't slaughter them, especially Newcastle who were up that point the worst team I'd seen all season. Are you lot saying that it's all somone else's fault that we're in this position? It's not, it's down to the Manager, No shots on target against Southampton, Wigan, or Stoke, (all winnable games according to some) is not unlucky, it's negative! Cast you minds back to the pre-season games against Borussia M & Ajax, the signs were already there, we were so defensive it was a bit of a shock to see! Anyway if it's down to luck and not skill, why did the fans boo when Hoolahan (our most skillful player) was substituted on saturday, and why are we bothering to try and sign so called better players, when all we need to do is rely on luck!!! FFS wake up, we have a negative manager with a negative outlook who is taking us back into the Championship..............and below??????????????????
So i presume Man Utd haven't had a decisions go against them? I presume that Chelski haven't had any go against them? That Wigan haven't had any go against them? etc, etc, etc, etc! Any team can bleat on about decisions that go against them, its the easy way out of a difficult situation.
Of course they have, but how many have they actually had go for them? The only incident I can think of this season where we got something we didn't deserve was the Southampton penalty, which we squandered. I fully accept sometimes we need to be pushing teams more and therefore creating luck, but if you take the Villa game, it's beyond belief how Joe Bennett was still on the pitch after he hauled Snodgrass down for the penalty. Against 10 men and with the momentum, I'd have backed us to get a positive result. Wigan on the other hand were lucky not to have McManaman sent off, and he's netted them 3 points.
