1982/83 REUNION IN W12 PUBLISHED 15:45 23rd April 2013 by @OfficialQPR Title-winning squad to return to Loftus Road MEMBERS of the Râs 1982/83 title-winning squad will return to Loftus Road next month, as the club celebrates the 30th anniversary of our famous second division triumph. After finishing runners-up to Tottenham Hotspur in the 1982 FA Cup Final, Rangers â managed by Terry Venables â won the old Second Division title at a canter twelve months on, finishing ten points clear of second placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. For our final home fixture of the season against Newcastle United on Sunday 12th May, members from that squad â including Warren Neill, Gary Waddock and Wayne Fereday to name but a few â will be back in W12, as the club pays tribute to a golden age of Râs players. Amongst other planned activities on the day, the players will be presented to the crowd at half-time, as well as being available for autographs and photos in and around the ground. Our matchday programme will also look back on the superb season, including an exclusive interview with Venables, as well as a detailed review of the campaign. I understand your point about the timing Nines, but I am very pleased to see the club honour some of our former players. They do precious little of this, we should encourage it.
Get your mobiles and laptops out ... It's in play time 13/45 El tel replaces Harold What? you wanna another one... 120/1 Mark Bircham
I wholeheartedly agree Roller. Of course I would love to see us honour our past greats. But.... The timing of this is incredible. We have the warriors of '83 presented in front of us for getting us out of the second tier on peanuts. While in the same breath we say goodbye to the multi-millionaires who have raped our club, sent us down and will be all sprinting for the tunnel at the final whistle. You really couldn't make it up.
Sigh! 30 years ago was it? I was in the Ellerslie (v.Leeds, 1-0 if memory serves) on the day we received the D2 trophy. Tempus fugit... !
I was in the Loft, got some pictures of the our players parading the trophy around the ground somewhere. I may have a rummage for them over the weekend.
Nines, have you listened to the latest Open All Rs? Mark Lazarus is clearly upset with the way the club have treated him in past. It is an amazing coincidence that we were talking about this in the pub after the Stoke debacle. We should be celebrating these guys.
I went to every game that season , I was at the ground a couple of hours before kick off chatting to all the players, they always wandered around outside the stadium talking to supporters a while before kick off I wish I was 15-16 again
