I am so pleased that Mr Short has appointed a young foreign manager. I have been saying this for years that we need to go in a different direction with the club and how it is ran. It is quite clear that MON is a relic in the footballing world, and I wouldn't be suprised he doesn't get another job. Football has moved on, and MON old tactics and training methods have clearly been found out by younger or more adaptable managers. With a young manager, hopefully we will see a different brand of football. Paolo DiCanio will get the players to play with passion, belief & expression. Hopefully Sess & Johnson will not be able to play the way we know they can. I am fully under the impression MON tactics have held these players back. I think we can expect attacking football. DiCanio will not sit back. I think these are new exciting times ahead for Sunderland. Finally a manager who will provide a brand of football we have been lusting for.
Attacking football is based on strong defence and swift midfield - something we do not have. A fully committed attack force of 3 forwards leaves the defence vulnerable and the midfield weakened and with our lack of strength in depth we may ship more than we score. A dangerous strategy in any game.
I agree about attacking football is based on strong defence and switch midfield - and I fully believe we have both. The only reason why at the minute it seems like we don't is because we were so negative under MON. If you constantly defend, you are going to ship goals in. Our defence is not bad. Bardsley, O'Shea, Cuellar, Bramble and Rose are not bad defenders. Whats makes them look bad is constantly being under pressure. Our midfield is not bad either, we do have pace. We have Gardner, Johnson and Sess. They have pace and are decent. If we play attacking football, put the other team on the back foot it allows our defence to have a breather instead of always defending. I wouldn't be suprised if we saw a 4-3-3 formation....
i was always a mon fan but it clearly has not worked for him so now we look like getting a complete change of managment style and to be honest it cant be any worse than what we are getting now and i look forward to the change and i dont care about his polotics cos he's not being employed to make speeches.
Love the positivity coming from the board now but as TVI said on another post survival comes 1st. Then I believe we can really look forward to next season. I can imagine all our other games getting moved for TV now.
Why do people keep saying Mon was out of date? It's bollocks. This dinosaur was getting Villa to 6th in the EPL only 3 and a bit years ago and has been using the same 1 striker tactics that 90% of European clubs and nations do now. It has been poor but anyone who really thinks Di Canio offers a better long term option than Mon is clearly thicker than a Byker lasses thighs. This is not progress.
Agree with this, so fickle the fans on here sometimes. Everyone thinks we are gonna win the premier league next year. I really don't know where the club Is heading anymore, not an indication. It was better when Quinn & the Drumaville con were here.
My personal opinion of Di Canio will be mine and that won't change. I will always support this team and if PD puts a well deserved rocket up their arses which unleashes the players and stop them worrying about losing and actually tries to play football then I'll be happy with shorts move regardless of whether we go down or not. One thing is for sure, we better get out our tin hats because every fans will have an opinion on our new manager, some we'll agree with and some we won't. Lets get behind the team. I would love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting this morning.
