"We should have won the game" says Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill after 2-2 draw with MK Dons By a_Stockhausen please log in to view this image Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill felt it was a âtravestyâ that his team failed to take all three points against MK Dons at Ashton Gate today. Trailing 2-0 at half time to goals from Shaun Williams and Ben Reeves, City were left to rue a series of missed chances early in the game. But two second-half goals from Sam Baldock saw the home side roar back to claim a 2-2 draw and take a valuable point in their fight for League One survival. âItâs better than losing 2-0, thatâs for sure,â declared Cotterill. âThat is the position we found ourselves in and we should not have done. âWe should have been 4-0 up. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas could have scored in the first minute, Sam has had two chances and the keeper has made saves and Greg Cunningham has had a chance. âIt could easily have been 4-2 to us at half time. But we should not have conceded the two goals either. âFive minutes before they scored their first goal, I had written down âconcentration â counter-attack.â That is how they scored. âIt is an absolute travesty that we have not won that game. They are a very good team, but I thought we were the better team and deserved the three points.â Cotterill was full of praise for the manner in which his team fought back to level matters in the second half. Baldock sparked the fight-back when smashing a shot into the roof of the net on 57 minutes and then poached an equaliser from a corner 14 minutes from time to complete a spirited recovery. Cotterill commented: âWe have made a big progression from when we went 2-0 down against Rotherham in my first home game âWe lost all discipline and forgot all the things we had worked on and learned in training back then. âOn this occasion, we got them in at half time and reassured them. We communicated sensibly with them in order to try and refocus them for the second half. âI think we did that and they responded really well. It is not often you draw 2-2 at home and get a standing ovation from the crowd when you come off at the end, but that happened today.â Read more: http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/won-ga...tory-20463522-detail/story.html#ixzz2qmqMuSWA
If we had put the ball in the net in that first 15 minutes where we should have been three goals up and where we dominated the game, then we would be talking of a well deserved win. Goals need to be scored,MK did that and went 2-0 up, then it left us a mountain to climb, even to salvage a point.
'It's a Travesty We Should Have Won' .....And if your granny had balls........... Nobody can say we should have won. OK, JET and especially Baldock first 20 minutes were so bad to be untrue. But we didn't score and then we knew what would happen. I can't stand Gilllet but the only player I wanted to *&*&*&*& after 45 minutes was Baldock. SC says he wrote down concentration etc etc - it's a bloody pity he didn't start with El Abd in his right position. And played Marv instead of Gillett which would have allowed Reid to 'hurt' them. However you just can't say 'we should have won' if you miss FOUR golden chances in the first 20 minutes.
Well at least we were creating the chances. Also, playing the football and possessing the right mental attitude to win a match. On another day that performance would see the game over before half time. I am confident we have enough in this team, with that direction, to see us safely up come the end of the season. And if JET does move on soon (and I really hope he doesnt), then Burns will become our 'can opener', leaving Baldock and Barnett together to fight it out for top scorer. If JET has any sense he will stay, because good times are on the way
Lets hope come the end of the season that this is seen as a point gained rather than 2 points lost. Nice easy trips to Wolves and Brentford to come, after which it will be a miracle if we're not still in the bottom 4. Crewe play Stevenage on Tuesday week when we're at Brentford which is a bit of a 6 pointer.
Listened to the game yesterday and thought "here we go again" but they had the desire to come back and get a valuable point. There appear to be many things that need to be corrected to keep us safe and despite the fact of having 2 of the better goal scorers in the division we miss so many scoring chances which could end up costing us dearly in the long term. Excuses will not keep us up and although I like the more positive attitude coming from SC I thought he was a bit glib with 20man in the after match interview on Radio Bristol. If you are obviously trying to keep things under your hat we can only hope there is something there for you to reveal. Interviews are now more enjoyable with SC and he has a good on air persona but know we need to change the tide in the points department, because as I said in an earlier reply that draws won't keep us up which means that we have to start getting 3 points from many more games and next week at Wolves is going to be a tough place to start that trend. Three points yesterday would have put a much better feel on our league position but I'm sure the players know that fact as well as us. Defence sounded atrocious yesterday and the same guilty culprits are starting and it seems to me that many of our posters can't understand why. Do we have the aces up our sleeves to turn this around or will we continue to hear that we deserved better? Each match that passes us by without points in the bag is a problem that could take us deeper but you know what I still see a light at the end of the tunnel and just hope that it comes out in to the open some time soon.
The same Guilty culprits? The back three was AEA signed Thursday, Osbourne signed 2 months ago (loan now permanent) Flint signed 5 months ago. Can't see how you said the same guilty culprits? If you listen to Redprints view on Wagstaff you would think he was useless, I like the fact that he's a committed player that will get chase all day long, perhaps not a winger material but good enough at wing back. Gillett is only playing IMO until Kelly returns and then we will have Pack who can pass the ball fantastically Kelly snapping at the oppositions heals Reid bombing forward. The only guilty suspects that played lady season Baldock (missed a few but scored twice) and Cunnigham looking a player again.
Well said ROD However, I think it would be a wise investment for SC to insist on extra shooting practice all this week. I would have them on the training ground every day until the sun had set, shooting from all distances up to 40 yards. Good practice for the keepers too
The same guilty parties referred to just this match and not the entire season. Perhaps our defence will perform better when the midfield is shored up and the pressure taken off the back 3 or 4 or when we get some better players back from the injury list and we get our proper shooting boots on.
