Does anyone remember Its a Goal from the early 80's? Not sure if it was on Metro radio or radio Newcastle but it was when matches were always on Saturdays and there was no live commentary (or was there??) but when "Its a goal" went off you knew it was to do with a North East team. I was only a young un so it was before I started to go to matches but used to be dead nervous praying it was us scoring! The days before Soccer Saturday and even bloody ceefax! very nostalgic.

Sure it was Metro mate used to hate it when it went off because then, we knew either we were getting beat or the barcodes were winning.

    Radio Newcastle.

There was no live commentary back then just goal updates.

Late 70's to early 80's mate.

Definately Newcastle. I remember it as a kid too.

"It's a GOAL" would be heard and you'd get all sweaty and excited and then the commentator would say "and we go over to Whitley Bay v Blue Star"

Bastards used to get me everytime. Lol

Try looking out for the parcel from England each day with the lastest match on Super 8 sent by the old mans friend when not knowing when the next one is due. Sometimes two months<laugh>

def radio newcastle, used to interupt conversations between local radio pundits and could have been at any 1 of the north east clubs' games, heart sometimes used to skip a beat with anticipation, fantastic memories

Radio Newcastle for sure. My old man was always doing DIY and I'd be roped in to help him on a Saturday, when I'd want to be out with my mates. All work stopped when "It's a goal" came blaring over the radio. It's a long time since I've thought of that and the old fella's long gone, so thanks for the memories SAFCDrum!
