    Sunderland lech after Wolves' Fletcher
Published 22:30 16/04/12 By Simon Bird

Martin O’Neill is *planning a swoop for Wolves star Steven Fletcher.

Relegation is starting to look like a certainty at Molineux, and Fletcher will move on when Championship football is confirmed.

The Scotland striker cost Wolves £7million from Burnley in 2010, but Sunderland will drive a hard bargain.

Fletcher has scored 10 goals this season, including putting two past the Black Cats in December.

O’Neill is also eyeing Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews, who is on a short-term deal at West Brom, as he steps up his summer planning.

Versatile defender Carlos Cuellar, available on a free transfer from O'Neill's former employers Aston Villa, is also an option.

O’Neill’s side were booed off after their 0-0 draw with Wolves on Saturday, and the manager described the game as a “reality check”.

The Ulsterman confirmed: “I’m going to have to look at *strengthening the squad.

“In the last couple of games we might be able to look at some of the younger players and see how that works out, so we have a viewpoint on them for the summertime.

“But I still feel we need to strengthen.”

I would have Fletcher, 10 goals for a bottom of the league team is a great return. I always bought him on FM as well.

The other 2 I'm not too sure about. Keith Andrews is a no for me - playing for Ipswich earlier this season, now WBA. I wouldn't have him.

Cuellar on a free....If we did get a CB someone would have to go. Can't see who though.

Its going to be a fun pre-season for us Sunderland fans.

Hope so, would love him here. His record for the past 3 seasons speaks for itself, in a better side he's more than capable than getting 15 league goals. He's got a bit of everything.

Think he'd be a decent buy, people used to say "why don't we go for Doyle" but Fletcher is better imo.

I dont rate Fletcher he's no better than what we already have.

Good option for me have a bloke like this in the squad - I prefer him to Bendy.

No to Andrews he is worse than the MF's we have got at the moment.

Not sure about Cuellar - if we get all of our CB's fit I could only see him being a squad player at best

When I said earlier that when we get all of our CB's fit I can't see a placep for Cuellar - I assumed that we would be offloading the Greek and Bramble.

I thought I had better clear that up before you all think I am a complete idiot!

Reading boss Brian McDermott is weighing up a £2million bid for Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson as he makes plans for the Premier League.

On the radar: Sunderland's Kieran Richardson
Reading, who could go up on Tuesday night, see Richardson as a possible replacement for Ian Harte. They are also in the running for Blackpool’s Matt Phillips.

Absolutely true - when I was a kid I remember my dad saying "Harold Bishop will be swept away at sea - it says so in the Daily Mirror" - about 4 years later he was swept away at sea!! So obviously the Mirror is always right and this is the yardstick I measure journalistic truth on now and I have found it quite useful
