I was reading through the articles on here about Henderson, saying 20 million this and 30 million that and it got me thinking. Now before I begin I admit I am a fan of the lad and yes he is in my avatar pic however, that is because he is a Sunderland boy and plays for the badge unlike other players who play for teams just for the money, i.e a certain Mr. Bent. Anyway this whole thing about selling Henderson is reminding me of the small club mentality that some clubs have, why the hell do we need to sell? Financially we are sound. There is no need whatsoever to let Henderson leave, WE ARE NOT A SELLING CLUB! This is what I mean by saying its not about money, its about mentality. Spurs supposedly rejected a 40 million pound bid for Bale, they are not a selling club. The mags rejected a 23 million pound bid off Spurs, and they are in no way shape or form on the same 'magic carpet ride' as we are... So why is it all off a sudden if a decent amount of money comes in for Jordan people are willing to see him go? Why would you sell a potentially world class player, and replace him with some good/decent players who can provide us with back up, or maybe just get into the first 11. We are building a squad of players who can all play in the first team when required not players who will definately play in the first team and then the rest are back ups. Most of our squad can all start if required without too much off a problem... And it could only get better with experience. We are building something special here... Don't dismantle it just as we are getting going!
Although i agree with you about the fact we should not sell our best players, i do feel that if we were to get an offer of 30 million and invest it in the team i think we could buy a player of the same quality of henderson and still have some left to put towards buying a real quality left back and a new striker aswell. So i dont think selling henderson for 30 million + would be a bad deal and if invested properly would put us in a better position and give us a stronger first 11 than we have now.
Good post. It seems to be a Marmite topic, Zendens, and I can see both sides of the argument although my preference is what you said. I suppose a lot has to do with what Hendo himself would prefer to do. The lure of OT is massive, with CL and everything else that makes ManU the global force that it is.
I want Jordan to remain at this club for years to come. Providing we are financially stable and meeting the players level of ambition, which surely must be a European push with his home town club following his break into the England squad. The day will come when he wants to win the league and maybe that will be the time to move on. However, theres plenty of runs left on the ladder and he has time on his side. I hope he can grow as a player at the same time Sunderland grows into a premier league force. I admit i am biased because theres nothing I like to see more than a Sunderland lad playing for Sunderland and especially England. In response to the OP you're exactly right... why should we sell?
yes its not about the readys but in all honesty who could turn dow 20m + its all well and good saying its a small club mentality but the actuall fact is we may just need the money higher wage bill than ever, yet to see if the attendance has taken that much of a hit but its definatly down on what it was last year maybe a case oof bank it incase worst comes to worst. of course even though hes local the lure of the theatre of dreams, playing for one of the most succesfull sides in the world and CL would probably be enuff to see the lad away and fair play.
I would prefer he stayed - Bruce is cultivating a young side with great potential. It wouldnt set a good example to the team if we sell a player born and bred in Sunderland as soon as the first tempting offer comes along.
The only possible way it can make sense to led SF gets his hands on him would be if the deal was Wellbeck and a fat wad of cash. I see this as the only way SF will let Wellbeck go.
Really good article and some very good opinions here. I would love Henderson to stay but some of you are getting carried away on this magic carpet ride thingy. Henderson is a good lad and I think he has a few more years with us yet. What is pleasing about the lad is he keeps Improving season after season, albeit with Coventry and us he really is growing into a good player. He'll stay and no need to take any cash at the moment. I do think Bruce is SAF bitch though and we will always be a feeder club to Man Utd. As much as it kills me saying that if you are thinking differently then you need to wake up. NB: don't want to offend anyone here, just being blunt. The league is really bad this year with the likes of liverpool, everton and villa all struggling. We won't get a better chance to push on in my life time.
Some excellent comments here, and Redandwhite makes some good points. However, I disagree with Brucie being SAF's bitch. He is very much his own man and has since his time with SAFC used his relationship with SAF to help us out. As for Jordan, I also would like him to stay here and improve with the team as they are nearly all quite young. But we all know that all this talk could be turning his head and if it does then I say get all that we can for him. But until something firm in either an offer or transfer request come on Brucies desk I'm not gonna worry about it. Redandwhite no offence taken mate, everyone is entitled to their opinion......................
