What a great moment for Sunderland and I have to admit I was jumping up and down with the Mackem when Ji scored the winner in time added on (even tho' he was offside). I then immediately found myself wondering when we'll have a result like that ourselves. The closest was the Chelsea game, where we were under the cosh against nine men and held on. But we've had so many matches where possession has been 33%/67% against, attempts on goal and corners heavily in favour of the opposition and lost rightly the game. I'd like 3 points from a game we've no right to get anything from, please.
We clearly needed a Citeh win today... Amazing what a quality prem manager is capable of isn't it? O'Neil was one of very few availables I would have taken over our Neil at this level. Sunderland were nowt until M'ON arrived - and look at their results since!
I know, but I dont see NW changing anything. 451 with Both upfront. Just hope we mark Holt tomorrow. Dont want to see him score.
Oh, I'm sorry, does that not make me a true Rs fan or something? I hadn't realise that somebody else writes the rules for me. I'll continue rooting for the underdog in matches such as today's, thank you very much, in much the same way as I enjoyed Man Utd losing yesterday. If it matters at the arse-end of the season, then I'll join you boys in hoping a potentially ****ty predicament for the Rs is covered up by the results of other sides. But, in the meantime, its all very much in our hands with half the season ahead, so I'll worry about our performances instead, thanks.
Fair enough mate, but I think you're being a little short-sighted. We are in serious trouble and Sunderland winning today and Blackburn, incredibly winning at Old Trafford were terrible results for us. I will be hoping that all the sides that are anywhere near us in the league will lose every game possible until we are guaranteed safety!!
New Years eve all the top teams got beaten by underdogs apart from Arsenal what a surprise. I listen to Warnock before these games and he almost sounds in awe of the big teams, some of that must transfer to the players. The simple fact is we need to show no respect, we earned the right to be in this division and we need to have a go at these teams for 90 + minutes not just when we leak a couple of goals or for one half of the game. Come on Rangers remember we were champions last year and hold your heads high and start playing with a bit of swagger again.
As is your prerogative. Short-sighted? Possibly. But, the way I look at it, if we go down it will be because WE failed to accumulate a sufficient number of points. History and common consensus suggests 40 points ought to be enough, so I'll cheer us on to that target. As I also said on another thread, we only need 3 teams poorer than us for the Rs to stay up. I've never considered Sunderland to be a contender in that category. Blackburn maybe.
Trouble is, the more teams around us pick up points, the worst our situation gets. It's that simple!!
That's down to NW and his lack of prem experience. Other teams with average squads seem to be able to nick results/points from the top teams. We are dead certs to lose and we do. The only surprise is we don't lose by more. MON knows what it is required in this league. NW has a bad case of NFI. All he can do is pin his hopes on the transfer window. Hope it works out for all our sakes.
Do you think the players believe in NW.I,ve been trying to find a word that sums up our performance compared to the sides around us.
Dont you think sometimes our players DO feel a bit overawed ?? Mackie for example a few years back was playing non league football in front of crowds of 100....now his playing Arsenal at the Emirates in front of 60 plus thousand. I cant say what goes through a players mind but it surely must be pretty daunting.
