And I’m going to be he honest, I’m lucky to be alive, I’m grateful for the support that I’m getting from everyone, It’s important that people talk about mental health to remove the stigma.
See, now this where i would agree and disagree. Agree: If you as a person suffer with MH then the more people you can talk about it with, the better you will be in yourself, not talking about it will just cycle the problem on and on a round your brain Disagree: Others talking about it, it's all well and good others just talking about it, to add a MH caring badge to their lapel, but what does that actually mean, apart from giving them brownie points to be proud of? Is it some sort of corporate speech, like the latest buzz words, talk about it...hmmm...i feel like killing myself today, ok but can you finish your shift first! Some person is trying to jump off the bridge, i will be late home for my tea. Bit of dark humour there, but removing the stigma goes beyond talking, and if i have to explain that, then the stigma has not been removed yet.
but you not thing is us normal beings talked about it we'd be desensitised and MH is just a normal everyday thing rather than us looking at you boys as weirdos?
sorry i wrote that horribly. Do you not think if people who didn't suffer from MH spoke about it, people would think of it as a common thing to happen (like a cold), rather than the stigma of "you are faking it", "it's not real", "you're weak and weird" etc.
Everyone should talk about MH until its no longer a stigma Matth. Until there's no more signficance to it to everyone than a cough or a broken leg.
The reason i said what i said was because of along the lines of how you have responded, don't get me wrong this is us talking in a positive way. You exampled it as a cold, now i'm not trying to be pedantic here or pick up on minor words, so apologies if it comes across like that but the reason i highlight it is why not relate it to cancer, not really a question but a matter i'm attempting to highlight. If someone had pancreatic cancer, they would be given what, 6 months to live and probably be lucky to live 6 weeks. People think fooking shhite. Yet MH could and will kill someone tomorrow, but it's only a cold. Again not a go at you but public perception. MH can be like a living hell for some people and to die is like going to heaven, relief from the pain, a pancreatic cancer of the brain....i only used the word pancreatic because of how quick you die, but that's still not as quick as someone that will commit suicide. But one is a choice the other is not, nope...you have no choice, MH gives you no choices. As for the words you quoted as stigma's, they are but words from people who one day, and they will one day, be faced with someone they know with the same problems, let's just hope it's not themselves.
I agree. Noone kill yourself today. Or any day hereafter. Suicide is perhaps the worst thing you can ever do to your loved ones. That may not be forefront in the minds of anyone contemplating suicide, but maybe it should be. Noone gets completely over the suicide of a close friend or family member. It's one of the most horrific ways to lose someone.
