I know you lot like your history so if you are feeling nostalgic tonight, I advise you to stick on Sky Sports 3 in which they will be showing the full match of Milan vs Liverpool in 2005. One of the most amazing nights of football I have ever witnessed, as an Arsenal fan I was really cheering you on and not just because I had €1300 riding on the outcome of the match. Anyway, relive the experience, it is on at 11pm.
I've not got Sky Sports, plus I have the CL DVD from.that season which includes the full final. Cheers anyway though fella PS...did you win?
Of course I won, stuck €40 on Liverpool to win the CL at 33/1 when they were in the group stages. Probably the proudest moment of my life so far
I think most of us have some kind of DVD or footage of that game but thanks for the heads up that it's on.
Ours to Keep 2 disc set The disc & my eyes are worn out I've watched it so much. While others get to polish a temporary real European Cup and otherwise have replicas they can't use silver cleaner on and instead just wipe it with a damp cloth as you would any other plastic, the Anfield trophy cabinet holds one authentic European Cup. Tell me this, if we had won it in 2007, would we in fact have had 2 authentic trophies in the cabinet till the following season?
"Tell me this, if we had won it in 2007, would we in fact have had 2 authentic trophies in the cabinet till the following season?" only 2 clubs that applies to, Madrid and AC Milan, we would have been only the 3rd club to have had that honor. cant remember if i asked on here and got no response, but would Madrid if they ever win it again have the trophy to keep again, or is it one of them only keep once type things, ie 9 times winners next one would be 10 and you keep it after 5 so does same rule apply to you wining it 10 times.
Apart from the Scum rag, I bought every single news paper from the day after.. still got them (somewhere..) This is also bookmarked (They (the beeb) were still full of ****e back then "Liverpool's advance to the final was a major shock as they invaded the established order of Europe's footballing elite - over-turning the odds against Juventus and Chelsea to reach Istanbul. ") http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4573159.stm
I wonder how many Everton fans watched us that night? Every manc I knew was watching hoping like **** we lost and were laughing their tits off at half time but left the pub after we equalised in so many ways a great night
It was comedy gold until HT.............& then it became a horror show I knew you were going to lift it when Shevchenko hit that volley from about 4 yards out in ET, that somehow defied the rules of physics by hitting Dudek & deflecting over the bar.
No, they changed the rules after we won it. Everyone gets the real thing for a year but then a replicate, you don't get to keep it if you win it a fifth time now
I remember being sent a link to a Chelsea FC discussion forum and the thread was a live discussion of the game. it was brilliant as it begins with them saying how badly we'll get thrashed, then them calling us an embarrassment to english football as their dreams look set to become true and then the shock and horror as we bring it back. I wish I still had that link
Fifth actually. Bayern and Ajax also have the actual trophy after they won three in a row in the 70s. So Ajax in 95 and Bayern in 01 had two real trophies in their trophy room for a season. It'll never happen again tho'. Since 2009 the actual trophy always stays with UEFA apart from the day of the final. After the final the winning club has to give the trophy back, but gets a full size replica to keep in their trophy room. You no longer get to keep the official trophy for five wins or three in a row, but as all the replicas will be full size there's no real distinction between the actual trophy and the replicas. Which means Inter, Barca and Chelsea also have full size trophies in their trophy rooms, so Bayern may soon be the first club to have two big trophies permanently. Five time winners or three in a row winners now get a "special mark of recognition", whatever the **** that is! It does mean that if Utd win another two titles then we'll have three small replicas and two big replicas, whereas Liverpool will have four small replicas and one big trophy. Which I'm sure will lead to endless arguments between petty fans about which collection of five is 'better'
utd under moyes have more chance of an asteroid strike at old trafford than a CL win in the next 5 years.
Bold prediction. I think too many are writing Moyes off before he's even started! A recipe for some serious 'egg on face' if he picks up the reigns & merely continues in the same vain as Ferguson.
want a wee wager? i am seeing ral, barca, bayern to name but 3 teams that are way better than utd with ferguson. in 5 years if you are still around collect £5 from me, or 5million whatever. #picks up the reins and merely continues in the same vein.... means drinks himself silly not footballing surely.
