Well BR was supposedly the 1st choice for the Liverpool job after getting promoted to the premier league and finishing a very respectful 11th in his 1st season prem season with Swansea! With his team scoring 44 goals, being only 2nd to Man City for completed passes and being respected for their style football on a very restricted budget, he seems to have pipped some big name managers to this big appointment. PL looks ever more likely to be confirmed as the Villa manager in the immediate future. Having taken Norwich to back to back promotions and finshing a respectable 12th in his 1st premier league season, he has been hailed as an exceptional manager who achieved this unbelievable task on a budget akin to a pub team. Able to play a mixed style of football, he only lost out to Swansea on goal difference and his team managed to score 52 goals - 5 more than Liverpool managed in the same campaign. My question is this, after a very successful championship promotion year, a spectacular 1st season premier league survival (against all odds), and 3 futher seasons on "saftey" in the premier league; If TP is so good/done such a great job, has he ever been considered for another job in the premier league? I am not aware of him ever being linked with another job, let alone interviewed - maybe it would be the massive compensation a rival club would have to pay Coates for his services? Seriously your thoughts on why these managers have caught the eye over our hero TP?
Good question Smither's But like the guys above said. It's HOW we play that I hate and always will. NO CLUB Directors/Owner/Chairman in their right mind would employ him? Which begs the question, WHY does Mr Coates do excactly that? As some have said many times. Many fans hate US the Stoke fans as well as Tony Pulis. What we've done as fans I don't know, apart from SUPPORT the TEAM every weekend. I agree with whoever said the other day. "If I was'nt born a Stoke fan I would hate what we stood for too" We have a Manager who does not think too well, seem's unable to motivate player's, and I mean GOOD player's. Good Manager's don't do that and Rodger's has to take great credit for doing so well at Swansea. BUT it was interesting listening too his Press conference this morning. " I respect EVERY PLAYER who plays for me and against me" "He has coached kids from aged 8 and upwards and even said. " I wasn't one of the better player's" WHAt he can do is " teach average player's to PASS and PLAY good FOOTBALL" Tony Pulis can not, he's had the last FOUR years to prove me wrong and I'm still waiting in hope but, I fear in vain that he ever will. Sorry for the long winded answer Smither's, it was a difficult question for me to answer in a few words.
Pulis' style is never going to get him head hunted, but if/ when he leaves I don't think he'd be out of work for too long, a struggling prem team or a championship team hoping for promotion would have him.
Speakin to a wolves season ticket holder the other day ..... they wud gladly have Pulis with open arms ... a no nonsense manager that keeps there team in the PREM !!!!!!! His words were who do Stoke think they are ??? A small club in the prem etc .... I took the comments on board and had a little think about it ? Yes we are a smaller club in compere to the top 6 but i do believe we can do better !!!! So really where do we stand ? we have to push on but that takes millions ... do we push or sit ? I really dont see relegation an option under Pulis he aint stupid ! be interestin to see who comes in over summer ... Some good players in that free transfer list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we'd see vast improvements even if one of those managers had no money to spend with our current squad.
I think for most these managers, with the exception of 'Arry, and maybe Jol, would struggle for at least a season given the cash to spend, but they'd probably adapt a lot quicker than Pulis has.
