It's not as if it hasn't happened before. Just wondered if Warnock is regarded as unsackable by our hierarchy because he's too big a character - in other words, have they got the balls to do it? Maybe it's misplaced loyalty and would be seen as ingratitude for what he's done for the club? Should Neil call it a day himself and by so doing, put Blackwell and Jepson out of work, or has he too much loyalty toward them? Whatever, he's already said he's going at the end of the season, so maybe best for the club make the decision for him?
No one should be unsackable. Blind loyalty to a man who has undoubtably moved the club forward off the field will be an ongoing issue to what is happening on the pitch. I was all for giving colin another shot, but given he has said he is leaving at the end of the season, if we have no chance of going up, and that looks to be the case, he might as well go now. As i just posted on another thread, give a new manager half a season to begin change and assess the squad. We appear to have a number of players more suited to playing a bit more football with others probably not having that ability. Start the change, give those that can play that style a chance and identify those players that need to be moved on.
I think they will give him the season (results permitting). The season we went up no one was calling for his head. The season we went down, a minority was calling for him to go. This season, currently only October dont forget, 6 points off a play off place, and we are all calling for his head.. Don't get me wrong, I think change is needed ASAP, 14 played and not one away win, but having looked at the bigger picture here, we aren't doing too bad. Do we really think it's wise to get rid now?
Sorry Jay, but I just can't see any sort of plan - in fact I don't think we've got one. In Neil's post match interview after that debacle yesterday, he tried to explain away the lack of invention in the side on the absence of Tomlin and Hoilett. FFS!!, he's hardly played Tomlin, and used Hoilett mostly as a sub, so to say that is just more blagging the facts. This club has had it's day in the sun under Warnock and all credit to him for that, but it now desperately needs a new direction to bring us into the 21st century - at the moment we're still in the Jurassic era.
Agree with everything said Sparks I have been saying this for 2 months,we need a younger manager with ambition and a different way of setting up a team and also a plan B.Im not saying that NW has no ambition but I think its time to jump on the old tractor and enjoy his retirement hes deserved it.Just saying.
Who would we get though? Who's out there.. Apart from the likes of Houghton who I don't think we could afford, there isnt many options without taking a risk.
Jay - at the moment, I'd take the risk because we are going nowhere as we are. As to who's out there, well Wolves found Santo, Leeds found Bielsa, and Charlton found Bowyer for starters. My only concern is do the present board have the nous and ability to find someone who could do a job and not just another Slade or Trollope.
A lot of this discussed yesterday afternoon. The board are in of awe of him. The board are clueless at anything other than business. Warnock's not stupid. He’ll read the press and MBs or get told about them. He’ll decide when to go. Saying that he did say he’d review his position at end of December so he may decide enough’s enough then. (If he goes what’s the betting he’ll take on another Red Adair job) Sadly and with no real benefit of hindsight the time to go was last May. Just what was the point of him staying on for one more season? There was little chance of him getting away with another promotion with his style of football and with the limited personnel at his disposal. This season will trudge along; some good days, some bad and some indifferent and we’ll end up 12-16th and we’ll all say what a waste of a season. Personally I’d be happy for the season to end now. I’m disillusioned and fed up/bored rigid with Warnockball.
Let him get us to relative safety by December then I believe he will go of his own accord. Best manager weve had by a mile since ive supported the club but its time to change. Id go for Gareth Ainsworth.
So we get to the New Year and we're still leaving it up to him? He's going anyway at the end of the season by his own admission, so unless anyone thinks a new guy would take us into the bottom 3, might as well do the business now because we'll get no where as we are. Just as well write off this season if we're not going to tackle this and be pro-active. Not saying any turnaround would happen straight away, but who knows? With another 11 fixtures before the New Year and the January window, there's plenty of time to improve and get some positive vibes going. At the moment this is just bloody dire stuff disguised as football at this level - it's League One at best.
If your going for a young coach Mikel Arteta for me , he is learning from one of the best, if not the best. Experience would be Chris Hughton
hopefully we get someone in before the transfer window opens so he can take a look at what we got and how it can be used better and which players we need 2 bring in 2 take us forward.........other than that xmas is coming maybe santa will bring us all a zx spectrum and the purple headed people eater.
.. This tickled me! I do agree with Hilts though.. We are all doom and gloom at the moment.. If Bamba comes back into the fold and puts in a few solid defensive shifts we could be on the brink of the play offs. Give it a few more games. Granted, the tactics are pre-historic, but a few more wins and we'd be right up there.. Lets wait and see.
Yes, he is sackable, everyone is. I think NW has done brilliantly for us. He took us up and we endured a torrid Premier League season of more downs than ups. Not surprising with the squad we had. No one has mentioned the much loved "Director of Football" role yet. Would that be an option for the second half of the season. Move NW upstairs and bring in a younger manager with top flight experience (a selection of leagues) and see how we go. It would mean the risk or relegation unless NW bent the new guys ear on survival tactics, but the end of this season we will need to offload the deadwood and make wholesale changes to the team. A new 5 year plan perhaps.
