A couple of weeks ago, I bought a Newcastle shirt with 'Best 20' on the back for my mate, who supports Arsenal, for his birthday. I did it as a bit of a laugh.

When he lifted it up and realised what it was, he laughed, but because I had spent good money on it, he swallowed his pride and said thanks and wore it to our 5 a side match the following night.

When we got there, a few of the boys were accusing him of being a part time Arsenal supporter because he owns a kit of another English club. He has a soft spot for Newcastle because I have taken him to a couple of games in the past, but other than that, he has no passion for the club and doesn't want a draw when we play Arsenal. He is a loyal Arsenal fan and only really has a small interest in Newcastle because I support them and it helps the banter.

Does this make my friend any less of an Arsenal fan? Or is he well within his right to have a small soft spot for another team without being given the 'part-time' tag?

    Of course it isn't wrong
I have a slight soft spot for Leeds, simply because my dad's a massive Leeds fan and of course I grew up around him being a Leeds supporter. He tried to get me into Leeds obviously, but ya know, I went in the right direction!
It always gives good banter though, I may have a soft spot for them, but of course during banter I'll try to rip them to shreds as much as possible.

Then of course I follow my local football team (my home town team like), Lincoln City!

But of course I'll always be a devoted NUFC fan, 100%, forever and ever!

He's an Arsenal fan first and foremost, any other team he has a soft spot for aren't his team but a team he doesn't mind seeing winning against other teams.

    Cheers man.

Also, my Dad is a Man City fan, I actually used to own a city top and used to wear it at the park when playing football with friends at a younger age. I used to get abuse for wearing it and it put me off, but nobody can question my love for the toon. People used to just use it against me when getting into a good old footballing debate.

Attempted to destroy the evidence a few years back I think.

(Yes, my mum was a man u fan...while my dad was a leeds fan. mental stuff)

My aunt who was the first female I knew that was a football supporter, a ST holder at TOON, gave my ma ( who knew nothing about football ) some cash to buy me a football top and she got me a Chelsea one, I was a bit disappointed and my aunt couldn't believe it either.

I own a Cobblers shirt, despite only watching one match in my life of then-a 3-1 win over weston super mare about 7 years ago in the FA cup and that was the season the manure came to the cobblers ground in the next round. Shame I didn't get a ticket for that.

I also own an Argentina shirt rather than an England one as we've got more Argentina internationals than England ones.

Better to have a Cobblers shirt than a Man Utd one. It's amazing how many kids around here still wear Man Utd and Liverpool tops. Of course I suppose the number of Liverpool tops will be dwindling now.

If i am to become rich, or even slightly riching, buying NUFC is my first target,I beleive most geordies think this Then securing planning permission for 20, 30 storey high, 50m wide farming towers(its all about the future). Very cheap locally produced shops will fly. Then its all about electronic cars or non damaging fuel types, these cars are ganna be fully customable.

All this to be done in the north east because im sick and tired off a london half witt getting twice the pay for any job they may have. sure a loaf of bread here costs 1.00 - 1.60p in london and any southern county pritty much well its up to 2.00, big deal when he is an IT worker earning 30k a year from being a computer engineer, shop worker, mc donalds burger flipper. were as in the north we suffer with 13-18k earning for these roles.

Sorry mate, it's just isn't there a thread related to what you posted elsewhere? Only joking mate, just thought you'd posted it in the wrong thread or something!

I wouldn't pay my own money for another teams shirt. I have a Spain shirt too, just because it was cheap at the time, as well as my England tops and (many) Toon shirts.
I also have a Lincoln City shirt, back from where I'm from. But that's too small nowadays, it's from a few years back when I went regularly to all the home games. Miss it if I'm honest, had some excellent weekends! Last Imps game I went to was at Elland Road against Leeds in the cup a few months, where we lost 3-0 I think. Ashamed to say my attendance fizzled out though due to band commitments at weekends.

I wouldn't mind owning retro shirts though. I looove retro shirts. One's with collars like are the best. As long as it was an acceptable team though obviously.

    i have a hearts shirt
    An AC milan shirt
    A Barcelona shirt

    Plus double figured toonarmy shirts

Does not make you less off a supporter, you would rather be seen dead in an england top then a notts county top :)

However in this guys mates stuff i beleive he should have never worn it to training, i certainly would not wear a different domestic shirt id rather go topless and have some toilet paper.

what this lad does not get is more then likely it was so that he did not seem a prick and not using mates present.

    Its all your fault

Dundee United, AC Milan (from when I watched us play Inter), Barcelona and PSV, as well as this I used to have a Juventus shirt.
