I'm actually very pleased you don't like it, it makes me feel happy as I now know only educated, mature people appreciate quality music.

Not even the best Johnny Cash song. Scratch that, not even in the top 20 Johnny Cash songs.

What's so good about Hurt, then?

The lyrics are mostly only half relevant to Cash's age/mortality (sometimes totally irrelevant), and at points verge on nonsensical.
    The melody's gash.
    Verse-chorus correlation is minimal.
Cash can barely get the sounds out of his throat.
The backing instrumentals aren't as bare and naturally effective as many of the other songs in American Recordings which I think are better.

I'll name five better Cash songs off the top of my head: I Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Man In Black, I Guess Things Happen That Way, Give My Love To Rose.

I love this version of "hurt" because it sounds so different from over produced crap we usually hear these days, it could have been recorded in one take in four or five minutes. It's so different from Johhny Cash that everyone expects and it is clearly the last songs the great man will ever sing. It's the emotion of the song and the way Cash sings it, it is simply wonderful. The songs you have stated are all wonderful, but I love the uniqueness of the songs off the last ever album, as he really reached out to new audiences & I love it when artists change from the norm.

Boab. Apologies, Good song, but not better than Nothing Compares To You Sinead O'Connor. So IMO not the best song ever - not even as good as Flower of Scotland

Great cover of the Nine Inch Nails song, but agree, folsom Prison Blues. Walk The Line etc are better.

Flower of Scotland is pants, ****ing pants. I hate it, would rather have a more upbeat song, with words and music that inspires not goes on about things from yonks ago.

Good song, but I go with:

    1. LCD Soundsystem - "All My Friends"
    2. Talking Heads - "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)"
    3. The Beach Boys - "Good Vibrations"
    4. Bob Dylan - "Like A Rolling Stone"
    5. The Beach Boys - "God Only Knows"

And since it's my opinion that makes it the official 100% authentic real order. <ok>

Hate Dylan. I have always been a Dennis Wilson fan, prefer his stuff when listening to the Beach Boys. Love Pacific Ocean Blue album.

I know it is updated with Taylor Hawkins, but this is just magic:

And this is just exactly why I loved this man's music:

It's a real shame what happened to the Wilson's, their dad ****ed them up badly.

It's a constant thing in music, the Osmonds, Jacksons and Wilson's. Perhaps this is why they produced so much emotional music?

2 of the greatest drummer in the world and I was there, along with about 599,999 others: Chester Thomson and Philip Collins.
