Will Barelona being beaten by a bunch of old hee-haws like Celtic change anyone's opinion regarding what makes the most effective style of play? All the pundits have been banging on about the possession style of football Barcelona and the Spanish national side employ but did the Celtic win prove that solid defending and attacking football also has a place in the modern game? Would you rather watch your team keep hold of the ball and nick the odd goal or do you prefer them to go out with attack in mind? I'm neutral on the whole Celtic/Rangers thing so it isn't another catholic vs proddy thread!
Possession counts for **** all though. Celtic were well worth their 3 points last night and they only had 11% possession (Sky Stats) Barca have no plan B.
Passing possession football is all well and good if you find the right balance and choose the right moments to be more direct. Barca don't have that balance at the moment, and without messi wouldn't have had nearly as much success as they've had in recent years.
Totally agree. You actually have to admire Celtic's powers of concentration last night as I think they often pass a team to sleep.
Sorry Trev, but possession is vital. Sure you can get the game where the the "starved" team can win, but over an extended period of time, I think you'll find that those with the ball have a better chance of winning. Great result by Celtic, but I don't think that this team is pointing the way to a whole new game.
