Before you go ape on this link, its a statement not a rumour, so you can keep calm.

    http://www.givemefootball.com/internationals/no-more-false-sense-of-england-optimism

    And its following article.

    Talking about England it says:

    No more false enthusiasm.

England have no hope this summer.

    So, is this fair?

P.S. I know this isn't a Liverpool topic, but every one goes in the Liverpool forum, and no one in the England forum. Plus Gerrard, Downing, Johnson.

Yes its a very fair comment,England fans are brainwashed before every tourno in the build up by the tabloids and fall for it every time.

Don't give a stuff about England. We don't have a team, we have a collection of players. We don't have a style of play. But we do have a crazy media and ENGERLAND supporters from small towns in the back of nowhere who believe players should 'die for the shirt'.

So I have no expectations for the Euros.

Watch us through thick and thin.

We probably won't be any good - but i'll still cheer us on.

And shout 'Engerland' every now and again!

I don't think it is. Remember Greece? Anything can happen in a 16 team tournament. Its just as much about luck, form going into the tournament and which players you have available as it is about how good you are.

When Capello was in charge I had no confidence.

But I actually feel that we can have a respectable tournament now.

I don't think many of us actually think we'll win this summer, but I think that fact, plus that we're lacking a manager and all this uncertainty means maybe we'll actually just enjoy the tournament. Exceed disappointment rather than fall short of expectation if you will.

At the end of the day i love the national pride, the sense of occasion, and the football, and if you really can't enjoy that as an Englishman in England then i think there's something wrong with you or you haven't been raised right.

Get down the pub, immerse yourself in it, and be part of something that makes the summer sun even better!

I get far more of a 'national pride' buzz from watching the English Rugby Union side.

The English football team has been a joke for years.

Cricket team as well for me <ok> Always get the feeling both the rugby (union and league) and cricket teams take a fair bit more pride in representing their country than some of the footy team do but maybe that's just me.

On the plus side it's extra footy after the season ends and the crates go down in price big time <laugh> bonus

ok so you want an HONEST answer?

    well here's a few points.

    • first off every english sport form cricket to athletics to football are ultra arrogant and think they will automatically win cos they are england..... why? just look at how no matter how bad chelsea are the assumption is benfica are going to roll over for them. look at how everyone assumed utd would roll over bilbao... the list goes on and on.
    • england are run by the media, every flavour of themonth is demanded and the media pick the manager... and get them fired.
    • The self same senior players who failed under McClaren will be in place under redknapp. should he be the man. come on i ask you....
    • England have ONE world class player, ONE. no matter what bashing that guy is rooney. gerrard is spent, hart is young and the rest are very average
    • In every tournament since 1966 the minute england play a decent side they implode. the track record is very clear.... in 1990 we played belgium and cameroon for chuff's sake!

So if you look at us playing either spain or italy IF we get out of our group i must seriously ask do we think a rudderless team picked by the meida can win this? I think not.

I think those comments are being kind.

England have absolutely no chance this summer, I doubt even the press or pundits will tryand tell us otherwise this time.

We are currently nowhere near good enough.

And Liverpool have been off the pace with titles for the last 20 years yet I still keep the faith. As I do with England.

    hart
richards/johnson... an unknown (cahill) "Don" terry Cole
    milner barry gerrard young
    rooney crouch.

subsititute hwomever you like in there form the likes of walcott, a.jonhson, lennon etc etc etc..

anyone who can seriously tell me that an england team like that could win anything... wow.... I mean we faied with a young rooney, gerrard etc we faield with beckham and shcoles in their prime, we failed with lineker, gascoigne and barnes... we failed at home in 96...

england have aging players, never weres and worse never could be player splaying. If we get to the semis it'll be a shcok in truth.. even with italy who are as bad in the QF.

England have a ****e/underperforming squad. And? I still support them. By your reasoning you should be as disparaging to liverpools chances in tournaments/the league

    let's cut to the chase.

In terms of football, I can honestly say that Club always comes before Country. I don't find the same with other sports.

So I can find little enthusiasm for an English football team - for a lot of the reasons listed above.

Our biggest issue is that that one world class player, ad several others refuse, or get forced to refuse, to play in all the smaller matches like friendlies, where the team is supposed to work ad gel together, meaning he is not an established member of the Egland team.

Look at Holland. They all had there best players in yet. Yet Rooney is always out with the most bizarre excuses. I'd threaten to block Rooney from the team if he didnt start playing in the smaller matches. Look what happened to Tevez when he supposedly refused to come on for City. I think Rooney is showing less loyalty.

I know its largly Fergie causing this, but it has to be stopped if the FA ever want a decent tournemet.

Every one was saying how much better the dutch players are than ours. But thats not true. Our best player always drops out.
