Hi We've all watched the games so far this season, we've seen the creation of lots of chances but relatively few goals. We've seen our slightly leaky defence, seen Suarez running the show - had some good wins and some dissapointing results. But there is no doubt we have come a long way from this time last season. My question is this - do we think this is us at our full potential for this season? Are we actually playing that well? I look around at teams like Spurs and City and am sad to concede they look better than LFC on current form. My view is this, we have not had an electric start to the season - we have been solid. Ok. Acceptable. I think there is a lot more to come from the Reds when we hit top form and we start taking more of the chances we create. I suspect someone is in for a real drubbing off us soon - CMON!
One of my concerns we seem shaky at the back so its essential we start shoring up the holes there.Goals will come and eventually the chances will be converted but its definately frustrating to watch at times. You dont get points for hitting the woodwork like 10 times this season !
I wouldn't say we are in form, yet Arsenal and Spurs are at the top of their game I would say. Comparing our positions then says a lot if we are in the same position as them roughly in the prem. I'd fully expect us to be up to third/fourth if and when we really hit form and players start properly clicking, ie Downing and Carroll. But then again, we could find that all season we never hit form, it's no guarantee.
1. we have not played for one full 90mins this season. 2. we are conceeding silly goals 3. we are integrating 7 players plus 2 players who didn't play any preseason back in. all in all i'd say that we will improve as the seaosn continues. Spurs and newcastle would appear on the face of it to be on their top form now so the question must be can we keep pace up to christmas the push on while potentially they may not? one can only speculate but more hope that carragher gets dropped as he brings the line so deep we simply don't function well
For me I think from now until the end of the xmas period/Jan transfer window it's simply a question of grinding out results and getting as many points as we can. We saw last year the impact of our great run of results from Feb through to April which propelled us from bottom half into a position where at one point we were within touching distance of the top four. We haven't hit top form yet and so our league position is positive (even though had we had a bit more luck in front of goal it could be better). Bear in mind as well that post xmas the schedule for those still involved in European competitions can get pretty gruelling so we may end up with a much fresher squad than those around us come the last few months of the season
I tend to agree with Billy on this one. We are looking likely now. Against West Brom we bossed the game - way from home! (that's the first time since Fulham last season). Traditionally, Liverpool have always come strong in the 2nd part of the season. However, by that time we have normally been too far off the pace. If we can maintain or close the gap now then we are really giving ourselves a chance of both bieng in the mix and achieving 4th.
The way I Iook at it we really should have beaten Sunderland first game, United, Norwich and Stoke we created enough chances against to win probably 8 times out of 10 so if we can keep creating as many chances as we have done then at some point we will really start to fire. Granted the Arsenal and Everton results were possibly influenced by the sendings off but then I can think of a few games off the top of my head where the opposition were lucky not to have a player sent off. We certainly haven't had much luck so far but that will definitely change at some point. The Spurs game was a body blow and a result that could have really damaged confidence but results wise we've reacted pretty well to that which in previous seasons we may not have. Plus we've played 95% of the season without Stevie G and had to integrate a large number of new players into the squad. Lots of work still to do and undoubtedly they'll be plenty more setbacks on the way but overall a positive start and at least we've got ourselves in a reasonable position.
I don't think our defense is shaky. We have one of the best defenses in the league. The problem has been our failure to put games to bed have lead to teams actually believing (which they have) of getting a result. In the end we have dropped points to Sunderland,Norwich and Manchester United. Because we were only leading by a goal in this games, any defensive lapses (Flanagan,Reina and Skrtel) have been magnified ten times that most people are buying into our defense is weak. The idea is to stay within range of the teams with whom we are competing for in Europe ,then kick in the consistency during the last 3rd of the season. This is I believe will be the key.
Goals conceded maybe low but its a sure sign when we are failing to keep a clean sheet most games.Thats perhaps why teams think they are in with a chance of nabbing a point or 3.
We look so much more solid with Agger around...if only we could get a run of twenty or thirty games with him in the team eh (unlikely I know). In our defence (no pun intended) we aren't the only ones in the Prem this year who have failed to keep clean sheets. Even the normally solid City, Chelsea and Manure back lines have looked at least as shaky as ours. Enrique has looked like a good buy so far and we have good cover at right back so if Kenny can get more out of Skrtel and Coates and keep Agger fit we will look pretty solid as a defensive unit.
I think we are yet to find a better run of form, we are undefeated since Spurs and look at Chelsea...Sorry but I said it at the start of the season and I maintain my opinion, AVB is not going to solve all their problems, he had an easy league with a squad of fantastic players at Porto and although he is a good manager I don't think he will lead Chelsea to any glory this season. We can beat them on the 20th and we can finish above them in the league. For now I still think Spurs are our main threat for top 4 and Arsenal look as though they are back to their former selves, but they are still not as good as they were last season and look what happened to them. If we don't get top 4 this season then how have we gone forward? At the start of the season everyone was creaming over Utd on how good/unbeatable they are but now teams are looking at them thinking we can get a result here. We haven't had the slowest of starts but history tells us that teams who rocket at the start to the season drop off a bit, I think City are exempt from that but we have plenty of games to go to start climbing the table.
I think we are playing okay but one big win will spark us up. Not sure where we will finish though with Spurs and Arsenal looking bang on the money.
