This story is being carried on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33583621 I would have thought he was a player that would fit in with your plans as we all know the Championship is hard to claw your way out of . Anyway all the best for the upcoming season hope you get off to a good start !
ALF got some stick on here last season and rightly so. He had sufficient chances to have won a number of games for us before he was shipped out mid season to Bolton. Having said that, he was mostly played out of position by Ole before he got the elbow (defensive left wing ffs ) and was given a run up front by Slade in a disfunctioning team that lacked vision in midfield. He badly fluffed the chances he did get and his confidence took a big knock. His energy, work rate and pace up front puts players like Jones and Macheda in the shade, but he doesn't figure in Slade's gameplan especially now he's brought in a similar energetic frontman in Doyle. With Mason back this season and looking sharp, I doubt ALF would get a start. Looks like ALF would prefer to go north for family reasons anyway, so best for everyone that he goes quickly.
The 'family reasons' thing seems a bit fishy to me. He's lived in Reading for ages then accepted a move to us. Suddenly he's got this desperate need to be up North. I'm have no evidence it isn't true, I just wonder if it's a cover story for some kind of fall out with our wonderful management team.
“I don’t regret my decision to join Cardiff, but my performances have not been good enough,” he said. “It’s probably a little bit of a black mark for me on my career. I’ve been a success at every club I’ve been at, apart from Cardiff. “That’s probably a bitter taste in my mouth with regards to that because I’ll look back in 10 or 15 years time and think what could have been, what should have been. “That’s obviously going to be the case now because it looks like I’m moving to pastures new. Just didn't work out for him.
If he's going then he should go ASAP so we can all move on. And Guerra, Kiss, Velikonja plus KWJ. In my view still having these guys on the books, most of whom won't get a game, is holding up our ability to make one or 2 more new signings.
With the bloated squad OGS left behind it was hard to see the wood for the trees and while Slade has done a significant bit of pruning there is still more to be done. Two players I'd have liked to have seen more of as there seemed flashes, and they had good records previously, were Guerra and Guidstellar(?). It beggars belief that Velikonja is still here. It's been evident he wasn't going to make it for some time. I've said a few times I'd like to see 2 players for every position, a third keeper, one or two utility players, maybe a striker with something a bit different from plan A and a couple of youngsters. So, 26-27 senior pros and 3-4 youngsters is a big enough squad. As you say though Blue, to get one or two players better than we already have (and we shouldn't be signing players who aren't), we still need to shed a few. As for ALF, if Slade is looking to get the ball on the floor and play a bit, which the pre-season line-ups and performances suggest, it would be a team he could perform in.
