Lee Johnson plays down speculation that Frank Fielding has played his last game for Bristol City
Head coach refutes idea that 2015 double-winning goalkeeper may be on the move.

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has played down speculation that Frank Fielding may have played his last game for the Robins.

Fielding is out of contract in the summer and has injured his thumb ruling the goalkeeper out of the final 10 matches of the campaign.

According to our sources there is interest from clubs in the north west, however the ball is in the Robins court with Bristol City holding a one-year option to extend the contract on the net-minder, which has not yet been decided upon.

When asked on Wednesday afternoon, however, Johnson explained that a decision on Fielding's Robins future is yet to be made.

"I don't think that's necessarily the case at all," explained Johnson at the pre-Sheffield United press conference on whether Fielding has now played his final game at Ashton Gate.

"I think at the moment the focus is on this season and winning these set of football matches.

"At the end of the season I'll have a board meeting and in that board meeting we'll suggest what we have and what we haven't got.

"And it's not just me but it's everybody - it's almost like a group discussion on what can and can't happen. And a lot of things will affect that.

"But certainly the respect I have for Frankie and what he's done for this football club means that he'd be a fantastic player to have on your rota. In my eyes that doesn't change," said Johnson.

According to our information, Fielding could depart BS3 in the summer unless the club decides to trigger a one-year extension.

Blackburn Rovers maintain an interest in their former goalkeeper and other sides too.

Should Fielding depart then that would leave just marlon Pack and Korey Smith remaining from Steve Cotterill's 2014-15 double-winning Bristol City squad.

That's it for this season and nothing finalised for next, it looks like LJ is waiting to be told what to do.

I hope he doesn’t go but if Maenpaa is the preferred number 1 I wouldn’t blame him.
    NM is my preference.
Love Frankie and would wish him well wherever he went.

Hope he stays, but wouldn’t be surprised to see him go, been a good servant and seems a top guy too.

He has certainly earned the respect of all City supporters and I wish him well in whatever he chooses.
