Last week we got turned over by a mediocre Swansea team and Gus said he only had one day to work with his new players who were on international duty. Now he's had a further 8, he goes straight into the caldron of The Derby with a full house of fanatics desperate for a win. We hear about his 'system' amidst a questionable line up posed for the Swansea game that neither had the wherewithal, mentality or the match fitness to deal with the Swans. In truth, we've played better football than our meagre 1 point deserves, though we've also been dreadful in the last 30 minutes, most games. Newcastle will be all too aware of our weaknesses and will be looking for 3 points and if we don't play our ****ing hearts out in what ought to be a gutsy do or die battle, the crowd will soon turn against some of our lacklustre performers. As for Gus, if he plays Bardsley and Larrson again and things are just as ****, I see only grief from the terraces - give him time? I don't think he'll get much if we don't improve very soon, as well as get the team right and playing well for 90+ minutes. Whereas, a draw and a good performance will no doubt buy him a little time, a win is vital if Gus and co are going to get us out of this ****hole and I think he knows this. Cometh the hour ...etc, it feels like a long wait between now and Sunday afternoon and we do have the crowd on our side and on our own turf for this one
This would be a massive game for us and him even if it wasn't our most hated rivals we were playing..
some good points there mate, yes i think team selection is key, bardo will get booed by some quarters if selected and will serve no usefull purpose to anybody, we need unity from the fans and the bardo affair certainly has us split. I'd take a gutsy draw right now but feel a win in my water. 8 days working with the players should be enough to see his stamp on the side, i say should loosely as we honestly dont know how much influence the old guard may be having KTF FTM
Excellent post Shameless and some good point. I believe Poyet will have had some effect by now, we'll push Newcastle back and hope Brown can sweep up their endless hoofballs over the top. I don't believe the crowd will boo Bardsley, or anyone else, unless it goes horribly wrong, the stakes are too high. If it goes wrong I think we'll here booing like we've never heard before.
Wouldn't say Swansea are mediocre they have just struggled to adapt to balancing Europe and league like many do. We got them at a bad time and they took advantage. Id take a draw on Sunday but its a winnable game. I feel our set pieces could be crucial and we need to exploit their weakened defence. Never thought id say this but ait have a feeling Larsson could be massive for us. Speaking to mags they say they simply can't deal with balls high into the box and in behind. Im intrigued to see how we line up
Swansea got all the luck in that game with OG's and penalties, as well as being the better team. I can't remember any luck we've had this season tbh. I'm about to set off for the airport and I'm feeling just how I did before I set off for the 3-0 last season.
Their attempts at mind games are terrible. Reading now that Collocini and Taylor will probably play.......
