A deliberate policy appears to be emerging to sign under 21's with several new recruits in the last couple of months.
And now the beginnings of a "business" relationship with Borussia Dortmund http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/181012-dortmundtour-432242.aspx

This is giving me a lot more confidence for the future of our club based on home grown players rather than high priced and overpaid transfer signings.

Looks like our man is stepping outside the usual box, something which is radically different from previous regimes. As you state so well cidered the old way of bringing in players, or short term loanees, to build on for the future is old hat and needs to be reviewed. I get somewhat tired of new players coming to Ashton gate and thumping the shirt a couple of times and expecting to become City legends but a fresh new approach could be the answer. We all know that it probably won't make us challengers for this season, or even next, but it could pave the way for home grown talent to rise to the surface.

The footballing fans are getting tired of watching non-commited overpaid wanabees and if they are anything like a lot of posters on this site then they would much prefer a different scenario that offered effort rather than twitter complaining. Whether an arrangement like this will work is subject to speculation but at least someone has the foresight to give it a try and for that they get my vote.

This idea I like very much, especially if we can learn something from the German coaching style - remember, they completely tore up their old system in 2004 when they didn't win the world cup in 2002 (they did terribly, only reaching the final) as they recognised that the "physical" game that they used to play would no longer cut it so they completely reinvented their game.

I watched them play a friendly in Hungary (which they won comfortably) a few weeks before the 2010 world cup started and noticed for the first time how much the Germans actually play the English game but, they play it at pace and with accurate passing - pretty much EVERYTHING comes down the wings and is cut back for on coming forwards, this is their new style.

Anyway, lets hope that some of it rubs off on us as that would be rather excellent...

The only real beef that I have had with our accademy over the years is not playing the youngsters. I have absolutely no time whatsoever with the "their not experienced" argument. Footballers by their nature are generally not shrinking violets but rather, confident young chaps. Look at Warnock, he has never been afraid to give youngsters the chance, his Palace side that we beat in the play-offs had a great crop of about half a dozen teenagers of whom the following haven't turned out too bad e.g Sean Scannell, Victor Moses, Scott Sinclair on loan, 17, 17 and 19 respectively at the time. His Leeds team also has teenagers in it so, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM...?

IF THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH, they are old enough...
