I agree with him to be honest. The CL is a cup competition and the best team doesnt always win it. Barca or real madrid are the best right now. We are no more the best than Porto were when they won it in 2004, or Liverpool in 2005 or barca in 2006 (we were better than them then!). You dont have to be the out and out best to be the champions. Like I always say, Frank Bruno held the world boxing title for a time when he beat Ollie McCall, he was the world champ, but Frank Bruno was NEVER at any point, the best boxer in the world. We WERE the best team in Europe however, in 2005 and 2006 and failed to win the CL in either season, so this makes up for that, swings and roundabouts.
The poor fragile 5pud1ings could be the first ever people to lose a match twice, as Bayern fans and as 5pu1s fans. Five minutes is a long time in football. Between Muller and Drogba's goal they had already placed orders on and made all their banners, posters and memorabilia on Champions League football for next season. As if all the money wasted on Bayern shirts wasn't enough. Still, better than looting all the sports shops for them I suppose.
I see his point but how stupid is it to suggest something like that a week after we win the CL? Competitions are the only objective way of deciding who is better than who. Sure we aren't technically close to Barca or even Bayern but we have proved other aspects of our game are vastly superior to that of either. How far do we go then? Do we say City aren't the best team in England? Or Dortmund aren't the best team in Germany? Or Montpellier aren't the best team in France? Results cannot be refuted, anything else is subjective
**** em all. We are the Champions, that is a fact, couldn't care less what any other **** thinks. Let them be happy with their 3rd/4th place finishes, it's all they'll ever be capable of with that mentallity.
Man City are the best team in England because they won the league. The Champions League (despite its misleading title) is a cup competition, not a league. Any one can beat anyone in a one off match or two game tie. The league is 38 games.....
Dont get me wrong, I am hella proud we won the CL, especially with this squad. I just think it is a overhyped money spinner for the rich clubs to get richer. Next year I want that League title back as priority 1. Will always rate the league above the CL.
The League is a better way of measuring it but that isn't true. The dynamic is different. I maintain that City could not have won the CL with that current squad equally we could not have won the league with ours. Not anybody can win the CL, don't be misled by the myth that cup competitions are a fluke, if they were that easy why have United and Arsenal struggled in the FA Cup so much for the past decade despite boasting the most talented squads for much of that time. I once played in a team (local) and we won every single game both halves of the season but as soon as it came to the tournament we went out 1st round to what was an average team in that league. Your argument that anyone can beat anyone in a one off match or two game tie is flawed because I don't believe for a second Arsenal would be capable of beating Barca over two legs or United beating them over one (or anyone for that matter). How often do you see Bayern lose at home in Europe? There is no such thing as coincidence in football. I'd argue that a league is where far more unlikely results can happen i.e Sunderland putting 3 past City. Spurs losing at home to Norwich. Barca being held at Bilbao and losing at home to Real.
While I understand what you’re saying I have to ask ... if this season Chelsea aren’t the best in Europe,. Who is? ........There can’t be surely be any doubt that the team that wanted it the most won it
Exactly, anything else is subjective. The fact is the competition consists of supposedly Europe's best teams and we won beating the previous year's winners and the year before that finalists
beat barca over 2 legs and then beat bayern in their own back yard who incidentaly knocked real out. says it all really
Again, I see what you are saying, but its no different than saying that the team who wins the FA Cup is the best in England. Every professional and semi professional team in England enters the competition, so the team that wins it must be the best right?
