After fracturing a rib on my left hand side now my left eye is swelling up. Did not start swelling up till a few days after the rib.

Could they be connected? And if not what could the swelling be due to?

I once got cropped playing footy and as I went over I grabbed my shin, then spent the next 2-to-3 days nursing a sprained ankle - following this I had the most excruciating pain in my shin again.

It turned out to be a hairline fracture on my femur - VERY ODD! It was as if my body was saying 'OK, so I've got 2 injuries here, let me repair this one first and deal with the other one later'

Would that not be three injuries then? A fracture in your thigh bone causing pain in the ankle and shin. Should have magic sponged it and ran it off.

The human body is weird. I remember reading about a footballer who complained of persistent pain in his knee. Doctor checked everything but couldn't find anything wrong.

Then some someone suggested going to the dentist. Turned out it was a decaying tooth that was causing the knee pain. Fixed the tooth, fixed the knee.

    True story <ok>

You should read about phantom pain, that's weird. People who have had an arm amputated getting a constant itch in their non-existant hand <yikes>

What you mention could probably be classed as referred pain. Actually pretty common, but the amount of stuff I hear from my girlfriend would surprise a lot of people (she's a nurse).

This is quite commonplace in the continent thinking on football sports science (I'd imagine its common place here too these days?). When Gerard Houlier joined Liverpool, one of his very first acts was to send all their players to see dental specialists. It is believed that bad teeth etc can be the cause of back pain, hamstring problems and several other ailments.

I think it was Gerrards back problem was the thing that prompted it. He need not have wasted all the money, I could have told him he was just a brittle ****er.

    Such sensible retorts.

Actually someone at work may have put their finger on it (no offence Gambol).

I may be allergic to the painkillers.

    Thanks for the concern.
