http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30909943 Not a WUM, but seriously? He thinks Giroud, Ox and himself are better than Henry, Bergkamp, Ljunberg and co? Sanchez would be the only one in your current attacking force to even dare be mentioned in the same breath as those guys! Comparing Giroud to Henry? Come on man ffs Giroud is a decent player, but Henry was one of the stand out players of the last generation. Can't see anyone saying that about Giroud now or ever......
TBH I like his arrogance, we need more of it, and it's not the shezny type annoying cocky type of arrogance. But this is the type of arrogance you need. And to be fair, he said the era of 2006, our attack currently is 10 times better than what we had in 2006. In 2006 Henry was still at his peak, but other than him there wasn't much really, it was Pires-Ljuinberg-Bergkamps last season with us and they were really past it by then, and we also got rid of Reyes after that season as well.
It's good to have confidence but comparing yourselves to our golden age of players can be taken the wrong way. For me, they still have a lot to prove to be spoken in the same breath as those guys. Our invincibles were talented but backed it up by winning the biggest honours. Our current group is talented and I do think that when we get it right, our front line can be very destructive. But Walcott needs to put his money where his mouth is and prove it. Players like Pires and co did it, he still has to do it.
He wasn't comparing our current strikerforce to the golden age... he was comparing to the strikeforce we had in 2006 when he joined. That year we finished 4th, 26 points behind the champions, lost 11 league games and only scored 68 league goals.
Nowhere in that article has Walcott said that the current forward line is better than the one of Henry,Bergkamp Fair play that team got us to the European cup final but it's also fair to say they were past their sell by date.
